Gushing

[edit]

This biography is too gushing -- to the point of embarrassment. Also, too long. (Much as I like his music.) PedEye1 03:59, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tone down of hagiography

[edit]

The biography is now shorter and much less hagiographic than before. The previous version read like a besotted fan-page entry, where "embarassing" was being kind to it. In addition, I have added references and have thus removed the tag. DJRafe (talk) 04:12, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, it turns out that much of the overflowery past version was more-or-less plagarised from the Adrian Hamilton 2005 article, without citation. DJRafe (talk) 01:58, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is something amiss here...it says that Vengerov studied and moved with Bron in 1987. Yet I distinctly remember him giving a recital with his then current professor Matvei Liberman in about 1988 or 89. He was then a student at the special school for gifted musicians run at the Novosibirsk Conservatory where Liberman was professor of violin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.189.12.122 (talk) 02:16, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any relation to Nicholas Slonimsky?

[edit]

I was just curious if Maxim Vengerov was related in any way to the Slonimsky family. Nicholas Slonimsky's mother's maiden name was Vengerova. Just curious. Thanks.69.234.58.67 (talk) 23:52, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

too advertorial

[edit]

This is dreadfully in need of revision. The clue that hagiography is not absent is the sentence beginning with "Maestro" instead of the violinist's name. This is really absurd for someone not yet even 50 who is not generally recognized as being one of the greats.

Skip the ads! Will someone revise this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.130.34.61 (talk) 23:39, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Revision is done. I'll now wait for the fans who don't know how to write objective Wikipedia articles to disrupt the new version. DJRafe (talk) 15:55, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Need for Update

[edit]

This article continues to need significant updating.

From 2008 to 2012, Vengorov performed very infrequently in public on violin, having suffered an exercise injury that affected his playing. During that time, he devoted himself extensively to conducting. I just learned these things while listening to a BBC broadcast of a recital he gave this month at Wigmore Hall in London -- a performance which was his first appearance in London in four years.

See this reference here: [1] Most of the article is practically word for word the same! What to do? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 04:10, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch! I hadn't realized that. I see two possibilities: (a) Ask the Wienawski Competition site for permission to use material from their site. It doesn't strike me as inconceivable that they would be agreeable, as we are providing broader exposure both for their jury chairman and their event. (b) Greatly condense this article, so that it is a legitimate summary and not the extended use of copyrighted material that now appears.
A lot of the editing here has been done by unregistered users, it seems, so you and I and very few others are engaged in this discussion I guess. How do you think it would be best to proceed?
(FYI, I'm not one inclined to puff for M.V. I just recognize him as one of the leading violin soloists of the era, and so think it is reasonable to have a factual article with some details of his career.) Regards, --Pechmerle (talk) 07:03, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
