I want to extend a thanks to Paulshipp for helping to expand this article. I think it's an important one. Part of the ref to the Kansas case is relevant because Kansas' decision is so recent, and so sweeping. That said, I am not so certain that Kansas is the first state to find a constitutional right for juveniles to have jury trials. I will do some research on this topic over the next few days and update the article appropriately, however, if in the meantime anyone has more definitive information that Kansas is the first state to find a state constitutional right to juvenile trial, I am very interested. Other states certainly do provide jury trials to minors, however whether or not this is a state constitutional right or not is unclear.
That all said too, it is unclear whether or not this information is immediately relevant to this article. This article is simply about the federal constitution. This should not be the catchall repository for all decisions with relevance to juvenile jury trials.
