MSA honorary member
[edit]Article says "including becoming an honorary member of the American Mycological Society in 1992". Please confirm if the red link is meant to point to Mycological Society of America; if so, this page says he was appointed an honorary member in 1987, not 1992. - Good spot- the claim in the article followed the claim in the obituary, but I'm guessing they made a mistake. Josh Milburn (talk) 19:16, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Claiming review. Will have comments up in the next couple of days. Sasata (talk) 18:58, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
The article looks pretty good to me already. Here are some initial thoughts, I may have more later. Sasata (talk) 04:51, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
lead links: reforestation, taxa
- possibly useful links: natural sciences, linguistics, labour camp; maybe link chair to professor (highest academic rank), Basidiomycota
- Done but for linguistics; I've changed this to simply "languages". Josh Milburn (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- what is a mushroom controller?
- "and it was officially requested that he attend mycological seminars around Germany and Austria." who requested this?
- Arthus Pisked looks notable. I'm positive Richard Korf and Walter Jülich are notable too, but I think it's discouraged to redlink living people (?)
- I suspect they're all notable, but the redlink guidelines specify that people's names should be avoided. I could look into throwing together some stubs. Josh Milburn (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- is it Waldbrandflachen or Waldbrandflächen?
- The latter- good spot. Josh Milburn (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- the six instances of the word "research" in first paragraph of subsection "England and the Federal Institute for Forestry Research" suggest a couple could be reworded for better flow
- Lost most of them. Josh Milburn (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- "ectotrophic mycorrhizal fungi" = ectomycorrhizal fungi
- Thanks; I'm displaying my ignorance there. Josh Milburn (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- perhaps mention the year of Ricken's Vademecum für Pilzfreunde
- Added. Josh Milburn (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- should series titles be italicized? not sure myself…
- I did italicise, but then changed my mind. WP:ITALICS specifies that "Officially named series of major works" should be italicised, but it seems to be more about fiction. If you think it should be italicised, I'll make the change. Josh Milburn (talk) 20:59, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- "the genus was not considered of much interest in terms of edibility." suggest "the genus was not considered of much interest in terms of edible species."
- I've gone with "for instance, the genus was not considered to contain any significant edible species". Josh Milburn (talk) 17:51, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- "He continued to write up until his death." suggest "write until his death." but the following sentence also has "he continued", so you might want to tweak the prose hereabouts
- Yes, tweaked. Josh Milburn (talk) 17:51, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- some of those journals listed in "Retirement and death" can be linked
- "He described three new genera" described->circumscribed
- apparently his favorite path to the "Stabielle" forest is named after him; see here, here, and here. Not sure if you'll be able to dig up a RS for this though.
- Ok, thanks so much- just noting that I have seen these comments and will get to them soon. Josh Milburn (talk) 17:45, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Sasata: Frustratingly, I seem to no longer have access to the Mycological Progress piece, which was one of my original main sources. Do you happen to have access? I'd appreciate a PDF, if so. Josh Milburn (talk) 17:33, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- No, I don't have easy access to Springer journals anymore, but I'm sure you'd get it pretty quickly with a posting to WP:RX. Sasata (talk)
- I've left a request. It's from that article that I got the information about his time as a "mushroom controller" that you requested above. Josh Milburn (talk) 19:10, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

- Have you seen doi:10.1016/S1468-1641(10)60171-5? I can email this if you don't have access. Sasata (talk) 18:17, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- Great find! I do indeed have access, and will add in some bits and pieces. Josh Milburn (talk) 18:28, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- Missing info: Moser was president of the Austrian Mycological Society, see doi:10.1016/S0269-915X(99)80035-4
- Another great find. I see this was in one of the German obituaries, so I've cited that too. Josh Milburn (talk) 20:50, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- have you considered writing to former colleague Irmgard Krisai-Greilhuber to see if she might have another photo for us to use? Sasata (talk) 19:28, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks- a good idea. I did send out some emails when I first wrote the article, though not one to Krisai-Greilhuber. I thought I might try another wave of emails this weekend- I thought the best move would be to temporarily remove the current image... Josh Milburn (talk) 19:10, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- "but this was no longer necessary after changes in the rules of taxonomic nomenclature in 1981." -> suggest "but this was no longer necessary after changes to nomenclatural rules that took effect in 1981." Note the change in link target, as the first just redirected to taxonomy (biology) anyway.
- "Some of his work ... became important in the literature." construction sounds a bit odd to my ears
- Tweaked. Josh Milburn (talk) 19:10, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- I'm thinking that the word "mushroom" should appear somewhere in the lead, perhaps in the second sentence! Sasata (talk) 05:57, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
- Good idea. Josh Milburn (talk) 19:10, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I don't see any reason to hold this fine article back, as all of the good article criteria are met. Will leave the remaining couple of questions for you to ponder and perhaps address when you get that source. Hope to see this at FAC sometime! Sasata (talk) 19:49, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks very much! Josh Milburn (talk) 20:23, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
