Discontinued?

[edit]

Clicking on this (article) page's link to Mentadent's website yielded no connection after a long wait: the browser stated that the queried server was offline. While this is consistent with the hypothesis that the product has been discontinued, it is not conclusive. Reports of Mentadent's death may have been exaggerated...

A Google search for "Mentadent" (at 1:10 a.m. on 14 February 2011) yielded speculation that the product has been discontinued, touching laments from (mostly U.S.) customers unable to find their beloved toothpaste, and offers from vendors—including Amazon.com and even Ebay!— to sell Mentadent in usually-small quantities at a wide range of prices. eBay's vendors showed some quite high prices for quite small quantities (1-2 tubes): some surprisingly showed no bids. Another vendor, BuytheCase.net, offers cases (of 12 2-refill boxes) at prices between US$49.08 and US$78.88 for various types of Mentadent toothpaste, as well as a price of US$208.08 for a case of 72 toothbrushes. These offers were made not by Amazon but by a vendor who had bought ad space at the bottom of Amazon's page: one clicks through the one-line link to reach a popup dialog box with details. This vendor's business plan shows promise.

It seems that the death notice may have been premature, but ultimately not totally without merit, as the official site link on the Arm & Hammer site, at http://www.armandhammer.com/pdf/Mentadent_Discontinue_Letter.pdf shows that Mentadent is now discontinued as of Spring '17. No reason is given, even though they imply that it is for safety reasons, and from what I have seen, this is not a government directed recall, but one done from A&H's own decisions. The lack of a reason given, to me, is highly questionable. 32.212.104.223 (talk) 02:31, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
