Metallica Picture

I hate that crappy picture with James pointing at me. I'm changing it back (yea thats right i am a communist.)

The info boxes for band list their current members. Doesn't make much sense to include a former lineup picture. BabuBhatt 04:35, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

About Metallica Logo

Can somebody find a good Metallica logo and put it up? I just saw Megadeth wiki site and they have a nice logo there... It irritates me that we don't have a decent logo.

Well, I finally found a decent logo and put it up; hope everybody likes it.

I didn't add this, but I can verify that it is true. Can't give a source for it unforunately, since I don't remember where I read it first. Hetfield simply didn't feel comfortable singing and wanted to focus on playing guitar. This was early on, before KEA. More details can surely be found if you google around a bit.

Les Claypool indeed auditioned for the bass spot. He was interviewed about this in VH1:s Behind the music episode about Metallica. AEriksson 11:10, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Les also played with an amalgam of musicians, including Lars and James, on Metallica's cover of Lyndyrd Skynyrds's "Tuesday's Gone" on Garage Inc. Not exactly a member of the band, but still pretty interesting. You can hear James thank him at the end of the song.

I meant I would like to know in the article. I think it would be worth putting in there as someone unfamiliar with the New Lead Singer story is left with the question of why (and when) this occured.

I heard (albeit from a Les Claypool fan) that the actual quote from Lars? was that "he was too funky and too good". It rings true beciuse I kind of believe that they would not want a "showcase" bass player. After all, they did wind up treating Jason like a red headed step child in a lot of ways. Actually it is a fact that James was not comforatble with singing duties during the earlier days of the band. Infact as the band was doing some of their first gigs, James left the guitar duties to Dave Mustaine. He later started playing the rhythm riffs though. Cliff Burton Death

Someone didn't mention that the bus crushed Cliff TWICE, not just once, and that his feet were sticking out from under the bus. I went ahead and added that the bus crushed him twice when the winch broke. From: middle of the country (10:50 FEB. 4, 2006)

Is it really necessary to include such a graphic description of this mans death? How about showing a little respect for him. The announcement would be just as effective without the last three sentences, starting with "Burton was thrown out..." --Tomtheebomb 08:10, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Mustaine's involvement

In the Early Days section, the first paragraph claims that their first session, in Lars's garage, included Dave Mustaine. The second paragraph claims that Mustaine joined after Hit The Lights was recorded. If both of these statements are true, then there is some explanation missing. Ari 07:27, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Naming

The following makes little sense:

'Quintana came up with a suggestion "Metallica," but Lars quickly suggested another and decided to use that name for the band he and James Hetfield had just started. In the starting James Hetfield didn't like Lars Ulrich as a drummer.'

Second sentence is a non sequitor. First is just unclear - did Lars start two bands or one? Istvan 05:23, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

• Just as a note for reference - in the book Metallica Unbound, it states that the first time Hetfield and Ulrich played together, Hetfield wasn't impressed with Ulrich's drum work. Also, I seem to remember hearing somewhere that part of the problem was that his cymbals kept falling over while he was playing. Willbyr 04:02, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Incorrect Album Sales Part 2

There is a barrage of anon IP's who keep changing the introductory paragraph to 200 million in worldwide sales. These numbers are sketchy at best. I have only seen partial totals(not including Africa and Oceania) and they were around 60 million. Best guess can't be too much higher than that. Someone posted 84 with a citation clause on it. Which seems entirely valid. Where does 200 keep coming from. Does anyone know a legit link to these values? Mr Pyles 19:12, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Magazine?

Honestly, that's what the whole Napster section feels like. I thought this was supposed to be an encyclopedia?

it's getting pretty bad. The article is written(in many sections) as one big run-on sentence. Between that and all the 'soap opera'...it reads more like a grade 7 book report than an encyclopedia article. I tried to clean some of more obvious grammar goofs. But it needs a lot more. Singles Chart

What moron keeps changing the chart positions on the single charts. It gets annoying changing it back to what its suppose to be all the time. I hate moronic Metallica fans.

Article Length

The entire article, as mentioned before, is starting to read like a teen magazine. On top of that, it's exceeding the 'prefered' Wiki-length for articles on this website. If no one has any objections I think that 'Napster' essay should be chopped down to a paragraph with a couple of external links added in. If anyone disagrees....post it now. There! I chopped it down a little. But it stands right now at 52K wgich is still too much by wiki standards. See anywhere else where the fluff can be hacked out of it. A way to make the article more streamline

Reading through other music webpages that are the same size as this one I am noticing more and more that their discography sections(which can be fairly large) have been given a separate article of their own. "Afraid of the Dark" - The Simpsons

In the "Individual songs" section there is "Afraid of the Dark" - The Simpsons. This is the first time I hear about it which is odd if the information is correct. "The Door" controversy?

Hey, what about posting something in "Trivia" about the song "The door"? Some weeks ago this track leaked on the internet under the name "Metallica - The Door - New Song", it's cutted and it clocks at 2:31. I'm actually searching for the lyrics of that song to recognize if it's a fake or not. Help me! :P

Are Metallica a Hard Rock Band?

Many think that Metallica are only a heavy metal band.That's because the name Metallica goes to metal,destruction,pain and death as well as Heavy Metal.For sure it's an honor to name Metallica the biggest heavy metal or thrash metal band ever as Heavy metal is a music genre which is born from the Classical European Music.On the other hand metallica has presented a different style in 90's.They were more alternative, country, punk???, and they dont lose their Hard Style. I heard sometimes..."Led Zeppelin are Hard or G'nR not Metallica so? what is Fade To Black, Sad But True,Enter Sandman,Bad seed,One,Aint my Bitch, Memory Remains and many other I want to ask what is the difference between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal actually only their older genres they come from?

The only albums I reputate hard rock are the series Load/RE-Load. The rest is thrash metal, the last is nu-metal. I think this is the correct definitions of their albums.

Nu-Metal? Haha. Thats pretty funny. Metallicas latest album, "St. Anger", as well as the past two studio albums, Load and ReLoad, are Hard Rock/Modern Rock efforts. And would someone like to tell me who listed under genres Progressive Metal? Dream Theater, Symphony X and Liquid Tension Experiment are Progressive Metal. Not Metallica. -Metalhead666

I don't think you can put a double-bass kick song as "St. Anger" labeled as "Hard Rock". Try to fit "St. Anger" with "Back in Black" from AC/DC. They won't fit. Regarding the Progressive stuff, "Master of Puppets" and "...And Justice for All" have both some elements (check "Orion" and "Blackened" as examples) - anyways, Metallica shouldn't be labeled as Progressive. 200.127.76.32 03:20, 9 June 2006 (UTC) Stahn.

...And Justice For All -- Thrash Metal

Black Album -- Heavy Metal

Load -- Hard Rock

Reload -- Hard Rock

St. Anger -- Nu Metal/Heavy Metal

Departure of Newsted

The article says: In the film he says he felt Metallica's desire to hire a therapist to help solve the problems between the band members was "weak and lame". But Newsted's "weak and lame" quote related to the fact that the band couldn't get along on their own rather than to their desire to hire a therapist. This is a (slight) difference. James Hetfield never recorded Three Little Pigs with Green Jellÿ. The only guest in this song is Maynard James Keenan from Tool.
