Omar was not scheduled to be killed off in Season 1

[edit]

"[T]he character was initially slated to appear in just seven episodes of the first season before dying."

Although Michael K. Williams stated this in a number of media interviews, it is not true, according to The Wire creator David Simon, but was simply the result of Williams' misunderstanding something that was told him during the shooting for Season 1; see Simon's interview with Newark Star-Ledger TV critic Alan Sepinwall at <http://sepinwall.blogspot.com/2008/03/wire-david-simon-q.html>. (This is rather a long interview, but a search for the name "Omar" should turn up the relevant passage.) Dodiad (talk) 08:19, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the reference you give to the article and tried to clarify that Williams believed the character was to die while the creators did not. What do you think?--Opark 77 (talk) 10:27, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline correct?

[edit]

"In 2007 he was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Omar. It was during this time that he also discovered Felicia Pearson (Snoop) in a bar."

How can this be correct (regarding Pearson) when season 4, which she is in the opening scene of, first aired in September 2006? —Preceding unsigned comment added by AnotherHowie (talkcontribs) 11:36, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was just watching "The Wire - Auditions(Part 1)" extra on the DVD and Felicia Pearson states that her first scene is in season 3. So I believe during "this time" as referenced above in this section probably means the past few years and not a very specific timeframe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.155.153 (talk) 01:45, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Narrating "Taking on Tyson"

I don't know how to add it but he is currently narrating the Animal Planet show called "Taking on Tyson". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1834670/fullcredits#cast —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.155.153 (talk) 21:44, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dead reference

[edit]

a published article, The Wire's Michael K. Williams on Playing Gay, originally published on www.afterelton.com has been referenced a number of times in the article. it appears that AfterElton.com, was renamed The Backlot, earlier this year, and i can't find this article on the the new site.

it's either not there, or its internal search function is as terrible as a lot of other websites.

i found an archived version of the article that i replaced the dead link with.

i'm not sure on the procedure when using the internet archive/wayback machine, but i used the most recent snapshot listed.

thought'd i'd over-explain what i did.

my edit summary for this edit links here. ≈Sensorsweep (talk) 01:09, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Caution regarding recent death

[edit]

I think we should be very suspicious that the only source(s) given here are tabloids, and the New York Post decided to put their own editorial spin on this report… Trillfendi (talk) 20:32, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The BBC say "US media quote law enforcement sources as saying he died from a suspected drug overdose. This has not been officially confirmed." (link), although they don't specify which sources. There's no rush to add a source before we have an official determination from an ME. (PS: Failing that, a provisional report from law enforcement or his personal reps.) CNN says Investigators found drug paraphernalia near his body. A bong is considered drug paraphernalia, so indeed, caution is needed. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:50, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
At this time, the date of death is uncertain. For now, I suggest stating his death was discovered on September 06, 2021. SlowJog (talk) 21:58, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We may never know the cause of death. We will only know what is reported in reliable news sources. A few hours ago when this was only in one or two sources, it might've been WP:BREAKING. However, as of now, CNN reported that drug paraphernalia was discovered near the body and the NYT reported his death is being investigated as a drug overdose. WP:BLP is satisfied with inclusion of these sources. Wikieditor19920 (talk) 03:36, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cause of death

[edit]

Reliable sources are reporting that his death is being reported as a drug overdose. I advocate that we use caution here, by only using the best available sources. I included these details as reported by The New York Times (link) and CNN (link). Further details may come out later, but we should wait until they are disclosed in sources of this caliber before including them. Wikieditor19920 (talk) 03:52, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please update the cause of death to mention the drug concerns and evidence reports widely available, including both "best available sources" mentioned.

Many media outlets are reporting the drug overdose concerns regarding the death of Williams. This page being locked and the drug overdose reports being suppressed reduce the quality and reliability of Wikipedia. We Wikipedia readers and writers expect the full story, not suppression.

@FlightTime: Removal of the "recently died" tag was premature. He died yesterday morning and it was reported in the evening. A drop-off in editing activity for an hour or two is not a sign that activity has subsided. Wikieditor19920 (talk) 09:33, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Editing suggestions

[edit]

In the Death section it starts off with the time of day his body was discovered, stating both “morning “ and “afternoon” in the first sentence. Multiple sources have mentioned the afternoon as the time of day. May I suggest cutting out “the morning of” from the sentence? WikiWadeDavis (talk) 06:18, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In looking at the section referenced, it looks like the requested change has been made as no mention of "morning" is found. Jurisdicta (talk) 06:59, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's been archived and I won't unarchive it but my comment there seems to have proven correct namely that we would get confirmation from authorities as reported in RS about what the cause of death was and that it would only be a few weeks. So as I said, while I personally felt it was okay to include the early media reports as something that is IMO likely to be relevant in a complete article even if they were wrong, if others weren't sure there was no harm just excluding them. Ultimately it was resolved in a few weeks. Nil Einne (talk) 15:16, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
