[edit]Why is this page on Miles Smiles (album) when there is no page for Miles Smiles? -Senori 00:44, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- After looking some more I'm going to move this to Miles Smiles.
Polyrhythmic vs. Polymetric
[edit]The article says:
The contribution from drummer Tony Williams on this album feels especially free, both rhythmically and improvisationally. On "Footprints", we hear his trademark polyrhythmic approach: the piece begins with Ron Carter's repeated bass line played in 6/4 time. Tony Williams initially plays within the 6/4 feel; however, during Miles's first solo, Tony shifts to a 4/4 jazz ride pattern while Ron Carter continues the 6/4 bass line.
The term "polyrhythmic" is not entirely correct since polyrhythms only refer to different rhythms superimposed. The article talks about different time signatures (or meters) superimposed, so the term "polymetric" is actually more to the point since it specifically deals with superimposed time signatures. However there are some distinct polyrhythmic instances in the melody of the tune "Footprints", listen to the phrasing in the 2nd, 6th and 7th bar of the theme, where the melody is in a 5-over-3 polyrhythm.

Fair use rationale for Image:Miles smiles.png
[edit]Image:Miles smiles.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Reference needed for rhythm reference
[edit]A reference for this would be helpful. Otherwise this might be original research:
"the correlation between African-based 12/8 (or 6/8), and 4/4 is playfully explored." Dogru144 (talk) 15:06, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
Availability of live versions
[edit]Versions are now available on official Columbia versions. Festiva da Juan Pins and Bootleg Vol. 2, and probably others by now.Dogru144 (talk) 15:20, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
