Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is part of The National Estuarine Research Reserve System, a national effort to preserve wetlands, estuaries, etc. of the United States. The national program has a comprehensive objective involving the shorelines of all coastal mainland states. A merge would help expand the scope of the main article on the national program rather than just repeat what is already in Florida articles of the area. As of October 2010 the NERR system has 28 designations with the addition of the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve. This is the second freshwater estuary reserve; the first was Old Woman Creek on Lake Erie. The location is in Superior, Douglas County, in northwestern Wisconsin. The St. Louis River estuary includes the Duluth Superior harbor which is one of the major shipping ports in the entire Great Lakes system. St Louis River is the major USA headwaters for the Great Lakes. The first paragraph of the article should be revised.(Bflind101 (talk) 16:09, 7 December 2010 (UTC))[reply]
