[edit]

Is it really true that Obata said that Near was both his favorite and his least favorite character, or did a name get switched? Even if he said both, the sentence should in some way acknowledge the contradiction so that it doesn't just seem like a mistake. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.189.197.62 (talk) 03:35, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedit

[edit]

I just stumbled across this article and I think it needs a really thorough copyedit, preferably by someone who's familiar with the material as it comes across really confusing, due to the flow of ideas. Choppy sentences all over the place as well.128.237.236.210 (talk) 01:00, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Near's Name

[edit]

How did Near get the name Nate River? If he was supposedly born in Thailand, wouldn't his biological mother name him something more common in the Thailand region? And if Near did have a birth name wouldn't that name be shown above his head instead of Nate River? I think we should add to the article some verification on how Near was given his alias and the name Nate River.Any Anime Luver (talk) 18:32, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simple its only the film in which he was born there —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.110.2.113 (talk) 12:50, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tsugumi Ohba doesn't know how to spell....:(

[edit]

Near's name was derived from his both ends of his formal name: Nate River. Which in turn spells Naer.--4.226.60.231 (talk) 23:12, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats the point to make it even werider. --91.110.20.24 (talk) 09:26, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure this page has been vandalised.

[edit]

I'm pretty sure this page has been vandalised. I don't know enough about either the subject matter or how Wikipedia works to make changes, but I thought somebody would want to know about this. These are the bits that stood out to me.

Near (ニア, Nia?), whose real name is Nate River (ネイト・リバー, Neito Ribā?), is a totally real character in the anime and manga series Death Note and the film L: Change the WorLd.

In Death Note, Near is the younger of L's and did i mention that he was caught by pedo bear and persanally delivered to Wammy upon finding out he was male, since Watari and Roger is into that shit.

Near's Age

[edit]

Shouldn't Near be 10-years-old? Since he was born in 1997, and his first appearance was when Roger announced that L was dead which was in December 2007. Also, since Light died in 2012 he should be 15 instead of 19. Roxy2k7 (talk) 05:15, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Near's Nationality

[edit]

Nowhere in the manga or anime does it ever say Near is British. Although it's not a bad guess it's misleading to put Near is British. Instead it should say Nationality Unknown but he lived in Winchester, England —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.233.228.140 (talk) 17:04, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Someone placed "Do not state what nationality Near is assumed to be without a source" next to nationality. I do not see any reason to need a source for this as it is stated on the same page he came from Winchester, so he is naturally assumed to be British. The same should be put for Mello. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DreamsDreams (talkcontribs) 21:59, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He was located in an orphanage in Winchester, but the series never stated that he was born there or that he was English. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:17, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I should of put "lived in" instead of "came from". But as he did indeed live there he must of had a citizenship to live there. And Nationality means the country you reside in not your birthplace. He may even have duel citizenship as he lives in the US latter on. so part British part American may be better. ( DreamsDreams)

There is nowhere that says that everyone at the place was British
"And Nationality means the country you reside in not your birthplace." One can be an American national residing in Turkey, or a German national residing in New Zealand.
"He may even have duel citizenship as he lives in the US latter on. so part British part American may be better." - That is Wikipedia:Original research and is not allowed
Unless any definite information comes out, it is best for the article to say nothing about his nationality
WhisperToMe (talk) 23:12, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nationality is one of the fields that should only be filled if it is integral to the story. Since his nationality is not integral to the story and was never even mentioned, the field should be left blank. —Farix (t | c) 03:00, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SPOILER ALERT

[edit]
It is perfectly valid information and should not be removed. And it is also against Wikipedia policy to remove plot details on the premise that they are spoilers (WP:SPOILER) or put up spoiler warnings (WP:NODISCLAIMERS). —Farix (t | c) 22:29, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merging content into List of Death Note characters

[edit]

@2606:6000:6205:4d00:2c96:ecb1:5a78:d241: @Pichpich: I agree that it's time to redirect Near (Death Note) to List of Death Note characters. I would like to see merging of encyclopedic information (creation and conception info from Ohba/Obata and any reception) into the merged page when it's convenient.
