1. Well-written: | ||
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. | See issues below.
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. | Lists and sections are not supposed to be empty, of course, and there are many examples of this. The sections "Coaching staff", and "Players", "Records", and "Honours" are all empty and some are orange-tagged as a result. There are two empty lists in the "Players" section as well, in addition to one in the "Coaching staff" section and two in the "Records" section. I am also not convinced of the need for results tables for tournaments such as the World Cup, Olympics, and African Games given Niger has never qualified for any of them.
2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline. | Ref 12 is tagged as a dead link and does not target the desired page. Ref 16 is not updated to the present day; it states that no matches have been played but at least four matches are mentioned by the article. Several formatting issues could be cleaned up as well, particularly the website parameters, which can also be linked.
| |
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
2c. it contains no original research. | "Competitive record" has no citations.
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism.
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. | Not a huge deal, but there's a little more content about "Background and development" rather than the team itself
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. | No images present in the article.
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. | No images present in the article.
7. Overall assessment. |
Issues with criterion 1a
[edit]Lead
[edit]- "FIFA recognised" → I believe a hyphen is needed here.
- "that effect Niger" → should be "affect"
History
[edit]- "at the time colonial powers brought football to the continent was limited as colonial powers in the region tended" → a touch repetitive
- "Future, success for women's football in Africa" → no comma here
- "Attempting to commercialise the game and make it commercially viable is not the solution" → repetitive
- "For women though, basketball is the most popular participation sport" → "though" sounds too casual here
- "In 1985, almost no country in the world had a women's national football team" → "In 1985, few countries had a women's national football team"
- "On 2 September, they lost to Burkina Faso 0-10. On 6 September, they lost to Burkina Faso 0-5" → hyphens should be en-dashes
- "In June 2012, the team was not ranked in the world by FIFA. The country has never been ranked by FIFA" → sounds strange, gives same information twice.
- "The country has had a Niger women's national under-19 football team" → link needs to be piped to exclude country name
Results and fixtures
[edit]- Colors in legend apart from red are not needed as they do not show up
- "as well as any future matches that have been scheduled" → untrue, no future matches are listed
Players
[edit]"The following players were named on 10 October 2021 for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualification tournament. Caps and goals accurate up to and including 30 October 2021" → incorrect, no players or stats are listed.
- "See also" link is redlinked, and therefore doesn't need to be there
Competitive record
[edit]- The "WAFU Women's Cup record" table's totals are all incorrect, since 3+3 is not 3 (either time) and 20+32 is not 17. Also, the total of "Group Stage" and "Group Stage" being "Group Stage" seems like an incorrect use of the term "total" to me.
See also
[edit]- "Women's football in Niger" → is not linked and therefore does not need to be listed here
Overall review conclusion
[edit]WP:GAR states that An individual assessment may be closed after seven days of no activity.
As there has been no activity on the review for eight days, I am closing the review. My conclusion is that the article fails GA criteria 1a, 1b, 2a, 2c, and 3a at least, and therefore will be delisted. If improvements are made in the future, and the article is brought up to par, it can be renominated for GA. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 21:31, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
