Rubbish

[edit]

As Mayor of Athens

It has become unbearable living in Athens under his mayorship. Instead of providing a proper refuse collection and recycling service, he has permitted gypsy rag-and-bone men and flower sellers to drive around Athens all day long, every day of the week, making loud announcements of recorded messages through blaring megaphones in their pick-up trucks. Legally they should have a licence to do this, but 95% do not. On an average day, a resident of Athens can expect to hear at least ten such announcements, loud and continuous, often lasting for several minutes each. Over a week, this adds up to about 70-100 such loud, annoying announcements. The rag-and-bone men seem to feel they have to make their announcements louder and more aggressive because there are so many of them competing over just a very small, tiny even, number of sofas that people want to throw out. Although, if you do actually want to throw a sofa out and you wait until a rag-and-bone man comes by, you can never actually find him because their announcements are so loud you can hear one but he might actually be ten streets away. Instead of seeking to provide proper employment and enterprise opportunities for this ethnic community, Kaklamanis seeks simply to ossify them in their useless traditional so-called occupations and let them annoy the 3.5 million population of Athens several times a day.
