Old discussion

[edit]

What was false about that statement? The source I gave was pretty clear. In any case I looked into it more and added another source. --Chroniclev 03:56, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is, Hungarian was split off by 1000 BC. The 'migration to Hungary in the 10th century' is simply impossible; in the 10th century, the precedessor of modern Hungary, the Principality of Hungary was already alive and well. Have a look at the article 'Hungary'. I think this is clear: you can't found a state in the Carpathian Basin if you have just left behind the future Ob-Ugrics, and you are still somewhere around the Urals.
Now about the date 1000 BC. Uralic linguists found the language had been split off at least 3000 years ago; if your 10th century AD were right, a Hungarian would understand Mansies! And I can tell you: I do not understand them (I'm a Hungarian.) I also gave two sources; but if you need, you can find more about the subject in the article History of Hungarian, or I can list all my books about Uralic studies (and there's a plenty of them.) --Cserlajos (talk) (contribs) 16:00, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Source and Tag Removal

[edit]

Dear Kwamikagami, please, explain (1) why do you try to remove a source (Lyovin, Anatole V. (1997-03-06). An Introduction to the Languages of the World. Oxford University Press US. p. 55. ISBN 0-19-508116-1.), (2) where do your numbers come from and (3) why do you want to delete a citation needed tag (there is no other mention of the hypothetical nature of this group later in the text, so it is the only place I could put it). Thanks, KœrteFa {ταλκ} 18:09, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, sorry, I see (after checking the articles about Khanty and Mansi) that your numbers come from Ethnologue and they are more recent than the source. So you don't have to answer (1) and (2).. KœrteFa {ταλκ} 18:38, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Next time, please, explain such edits [1] in your edit tag, so others can understand your motivations. KœrteFa {ταλκ} 18:43, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
