Criticism

[edit]

The owners and higher staff that operate this convention are trying to hide the truth about it and "sugercoat" their image with shoddy details and promises. Please read the october 7th edits to the article for the truth about the convention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.109.124.5 (talk) 13:12, November 7, 2005 (UTC)

Don't. Just... don't. --Paul Soth 13:49, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Curse of Ohayocon/recent edits

[edit]

www.ohayocon.com was recently offlined as part of a DMCA C&D notice. I think that the scrutiny may merit note as independent research that is relevant to the event itself, if not the controversy in numerous recent edits. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.203.80.125 (talk) 20:19, August 17, 2006 (UTC)

That looks more like a hack of their webserver then a legitimate DMCA notice by their webhost. The reasons I think its a server hack is because no infringed material was identified in the notice, no person or law firm was identified as being responsible for the notice, and the only contact address give was to an anonymous GMail account. But either way, it's still not a verifiable source of a curse. --TheFarix (Talk) 20:43, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Vandalism

[edit]

I'm a staff member of Ohayocon, and I have a good idea of who's behind the recent vandalism of the page. That is, our former webmaster who has also taken our old dot com domain for himself. I really can't understand why he's decided to take such a juvenile approach to the whole situation. But in the meantime, keeping an eye on this page for more edits like this would be welcome. --Paul Soth 09:10, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to years and locations

[edit]

I removed the attendance figures because they were listed as "approx". Posting estimated information deters from factual accounting, and posting an estimated attendance for 2007 just doesn't belong. I also removed the 2007 entry as it's not a historical fact at this time. I will re-add the information after the 2007 event has completed.

Someone official with this group should do recounts of their attendance, or at least more research as to what official statistics were when they were released, so more accurate numbers and not approximations can be posted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.185.35.65 (talk) 12:44, November 15, 2006 (UTC)

Attendance counts

[edit]

Please don't remove the attendance counts. Those are as verified as they can be.

- Dustin Phillips Ohayocon 2007 Convention Chair —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chibimoondotus (talkcontribs) 06:02, November 19, 2006 (UTC)

  • If they're verified, please let us know where the information originates from. It cannot and should not only be posted here as per WP:OR. Ideally, it should be posted on the Ohayocon web site and AnimeCons.com so that the attendance figures could reference that. Until then, it falls under WP:OR, is not "verified", and does not belong. --PatrickD 19:19, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, exact figures are preferred over "approximate". Also, it would be nice to know if they're the number of paid attendees, warm bodies, or some other measurement. --PatrickD 19:22, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When held?

[edit]

" It is traditionally held during the month of January in Columbus, Ohio." - Is this meant to say "the first week of January"? Zephonith —Preceding comment was added at 12:44, November 24, 2006 (UTC)

No, it's not always the first week. We've been at the beginning, the middle, and the end. Chibimoondotus —Preceding comment was added at 13:32, December 15, 2006 (UTC)

The Oakland Post issues

[edit]

With the recent IP edits removing negative information from The Oakland Post, why have the information about construction and wristbands remained? This information is also from the The Oakland Post. To me, this now seems to be an issue of censorship vs. reliable sources. Esw01407 (talk) 18:29, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As an outside observer, I note that The Oakland Post is a student newspaper from a Michigan university and the cited article is clearly marked as a blog post. This does not have the indices of a reliable source as we usually define it here, especially in terms of being a ...published source with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. This is therefore not an issue of censorship versus reliable sources, it is an issue of using the personal opinion of one writer in a non-reliable source to justify criticism. To include this would be a violation of the neutral point of view policy: This policy is non-negotiable, and the principles upon which it is based cannot be superseded by other policies or guidelines, nor by editor consensus. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 19:05, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Adding in historical facts such as stating "the convention continued to use wristbands" is relevant to the history of a convention, and an indisputable fact. Adding in "this one blogger has this criticism" is a biased, unvalidated, opinion with no real bearing on history or validity to the discussion. It is perfectly acceptable to discuss such on a talk page, but not list it as part of an events history, lest we need to source every bloggers opinion off the entire internet. Saingeom (talk) 19:16, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like I've been overruled on this one, I will not re-add that information again. I can only hope that this article doesn't become a PR piece for the convention, because that's what this looks like. Esw01407 (talk) 20:19, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ohayocon Strike

[edit]

Is it against community policy to cover the Ohayocon staff strike and subsequent resignation of their entire leadership? For context:

[1]http://www.nerdandtie.com/2023/10/02/majority-of-ohayocon-senior-leadership-allegedly-removed-in-hostile-takeover/ [2]https://ohayocon.wtf/ 63.147.84.66 (talk) 22:07, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I tried mentioning it and they reverted the changes and locked the page. They're running scared. 98.50.105.8 (talk) 22:37, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seems Nerd and Tie isn't a sufficiently unbiased/reliable source but Anime News Network is, going off the The Oakland Post issues entries. 162.154.89.109 (talk) 19:49, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would say the logo needs to be updated to what’s used on their website, referred to as “bisexually lit” in their website data, but their site appears to have been de-hosted. 162.154.89.109 (talk) 22:34, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
