Where are the BLACK people??

[edit]

Sometime during the 70's Lt. or Capt. (or both) Ed Hall, portrayed by Emmy-winner, Al Freeman, Jr. and "passed-for-white" Carla Grey, played by Ellen Holly, married and adopted troubled orphan, Josh (a teen Laurence Fishburne.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.225.214.41 (talk) 10:04, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

These characters are mentioned in the fourth paragraph, which admittedly could use some expansion. Also, Carla Gray has her own article, though it also needs some work ;) — TAnthonyTalk 16:18, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Meredith Lord

[edit]

Yes, Meredith Lord WAS frail, Sickley, even termenal , but it was a BLOOD CONDITION, not a hear condition she suffered from — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.101.126.2 (talk) 01:08, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

– Per WP:DATERANGE, the FULL four-digit years should be written out in any given date range on Wikipedia (with the exception of one-year periods which can be written either way: 1923–1924 or 1923–24). The above moves should be made to fit within Wikipedia's guidelines. See the similar requested move for the "History of the United States" pages, the "History of New York City" pages, the "List of Florida/North Carolina/Texas hurricanes" pages, the "List of California ballot propositions" pages, the "Pride of Performance Awards" pages, and the "Toyota concept vehicles" pages. For a single season, a la One Life to Live storylines (1968–69), yes. But when the date range spans a decade, there's no reason not to follow the preferred formulation of MOS:DATERANGE. --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:00, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree and point again to the Simpsons example which is 20ish years. --Gonnym (talk) 19:04, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The date ranges there cover one season each, which as I've said is one of the accepted "exceptions" to the 4-digit MOS:DATERANGE formulation. But, here we're not talking about that – we're talking about date ranges that span a decade (or more!). There's really no justification for not using the 4-digit dateranges in this case. --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:14, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure we aren't talking about the same thing. I'm not saying to use 1980-89 (which is bad), I'm saying that it should use One Life to Live storylines (seasons x-y). I would have added proper numbers, but I have no idea what seasons those years correlate. I'm opposing this proposal as an insufficient fix. --Gonnym (talk) 19:43, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, gotcha. The problem with that is that American daytime soap operas don't really have "seasons" in any meaningful way – they air year-round, and do not take any noticeable "break" during summer (or, really, even over Christmas break!). So doing, One Life to Live storylines (seasons 10–25) really wouldn't be helpful here, as even viewers of OLTL would have no idea when that corresponded to! --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:49, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? One Life to Live says that the series has 45 seasons and has a caption under a picture saying The season 44. I tried finding any review sources but couldn't. metacritic has it split into seasons but has no actual reviews I can check. --Gonnym (talk) 20:14, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"Seasons" do exist for American daytime soaps, but they are really more "technical" than "functional" – suffice it to say that while "seasons" are recognizable for shows like The Simpsons or Arrow or Vikings, they are basically not WP:RECOGNIZABLE to daytime soap opera viewers. So the present proposal is vastly preferable to the suggestion of disambiguating "by season" in this case. --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:51, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging Gonnym to see if there's any interest in changing their vote to "support" after the longer discussion here... --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:34, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'll remove my objection but I just can't support this as I haven't seen any evidence that what you've said is how soap opera are viewed. However, since I cannot prove the opposite I also won't object. --Gonnym (talk) 15:47, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's comment - while I understand your point, all I'm requesting is for the full year to be written out. The points where the articles are split would be a different discussion, I guess. Paintspot Infez (talk) 16:25, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sarah's Death

[edit]

Sarah was already dead by November 1993. OLTL debuted in my country with Marty's gang raped (aired in the US on May 1993) when Sarah was already dead & Bo was involved with Nora by then. I can assume that it was meant therefore that the car accident Sarah died as a result of happened on Novermber 1992 instead; That is, as Nora went into Llanview in late 1992 herself & presumed were involved in the car accident.
