Well, I've heard that fertilizers and farm manure have been leaking into the finger lakes (especially Cayuga) and making the seaweed grow like mad. Not fun. 74.33.174.133 (talk) 04:09, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
While Lake Oneida has some issues with invasive species and phosphate and runoff pollution, it does not have the same history of industrial pollution and heavy metal contamination as is found in the similarly named Lake Onondaga. The most recent issue facing Lake Oneida was an algal bloom that took place in 2016. AngelofPity (talk) 18:17, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
2016 was a hot and dry year with a short but intense 2016 New York drought. The small Onondaga Lake near downtown syracuse is so polluted it's illegal to touch the water. Recently rated as the most polluted lake in the US pending cleanup other rust belt lakes have undergone. In 2002 Oneida Lake didn't freeze over. As well in the 2010s it had thin ice and so far in 2023 its on track to not freeze at all.Now twice recently in a hundred years odds B137 (talk) 07:04, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
