fire?

[edit]

I cut this: "in 1853, when a disastrous fire on the 12th of July destroyed the whole town" -- couldn't find a ref for it and is contradicted by the Gudde book. Note that CERES does mention a fire, but not the 12th of July part. -- phoebe / (talk to me) 22:45, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It turns out that there are lots of references to the Ophir fire of 12 July 1853. For starters the newspaper, the Sacramento Daily Union, Volume 5, Number 720, 15 July 1853 — The Ophir Fire: Additional Particulars, and Seacrest, William B. (2005). California Disasters, 1812-1899. p. 234.. I did not find a contradiction. --Bejnar (talk) 17:01, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
