[edit]In looking through the above book, I'm wondering if it was actually lands of the Northern Pacific Railway, not the Oregon & California, that were involved? O&C isn't directly mentioned in the book, but Northern Pacific is. Wonder if we can get a definite answer... -Pete (talk) 09:55, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- That has been my hesitation in expanding definitively. It seems clear from the sources I added yesterday that the O&C lands were involved, but the scandal was probably widespread like any good scandal (eg, the S&L scandal wasn't just one S&L). The Puter book is a bit sensational to get facts out of. The Golden Goose article cited would be great to read but I've only found it as a terciary source so far. --Esprqii (talk) 15:27, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

- Barber, Amherst Willoughby: In 1903 he was named a Special Examiner of Surveys, and Barber was the government surveyor for the prosecution in the Puter land fraud trial in 1904 in Oregon.
- Van Winkle, Franklin J.; Frank was indicted by the Federal Government in 1905 for "conspiring to enter into an agreement to defraud the Federal Government" in Oregon in 1902 in the Puter Land Fraud Case. Apparently he was a Notary Public and falsely certified oaths.
