Number of volunteers incorrect

[edit]

The article has the number of volunteers (Games Makers) taking part ion the parade as 14,000. This is an incorrect figure. LOCOG emailed all 70,000 Games Makers (myself included) with an invite to take part, but volunteer names were entered into a ballot draw and only 9,000 lucky volunteers will be invited to take part in the parade. Unfortunately I cannot attach the link to this as it is in a private Games Maker portal that can only be accessed with security log-in details. Will this be an issue? Hopefully as the parade gets underway it will become clearer and get picked up. Right now I can only go on what the sources say. Difficultly north (talk) 12:29, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I understand what you mean. The sources where going off initial predictions by LOCOG, who informed the media that they hoped to have at least 14,000 volunteers attending. However, as with most things with LOCOG, the volunteer numbers were changed again and a ballot went ahead for Games Makers. A total of 9000 seats have been reserved along The Mall for these ballot winners. I can take a screenshot of the information held on the secure Games Maker Portal, but not sure if that would be deemed valid enough as a reliable source. This has been a long-term issue in having a secure portal for the volunteers as most of the details are held there, which is direct from official source - but if I post the citation link on here only people with password access to the portal would be able to view it. Usually details of numbers are published after the event has happened. I'm uncertain over the use of primary sources. Truthfully I think it would be best to wait until the parade has happened and then decide. I will reword the article slightly to reflect this. In fact some of the info is here. Simply south...... eating shoes for just 6 years 19:15, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know all the numbers, but it is worth noting that there are more than one set of 'volunteers' represented. AIUI the Games Makers [one of our students was one] could enter into one ballot for one of their allocation of seats. And then there was a separate allowance of seats for Ceremonies Volunteers [myself included]. The Mayor Lof London's Ambassadors are another set. So, depending on what volunteers are being counted and which seat allocations are being counted I imagine there can be several different sets of numbers out there in the media, etc.137.222.142.50 (talk) 14:56, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The overall number was 9,000 volunteers that won balloted seats, regardless of the workforce area. This was filtered through from the accreditation department, to which I was a Team Leader for Accreditation based at the IBC. Wesley Mouse 15:29, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh fabulous, that is the exact letter which I received in email and also paper based format. So there is now a source which can be used to collaborate what I was saying above. I tell ya, part of me will be glad when its all over and done with. My head has been so far in the sand with all the hectic schedules etc that at times I forget what day of the week I am on lol. Well its near the end of the week. How does it look? Simply south...... eating shoes for just 6 years 18:42, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
