Near Losses

[edit]

After the 1904 men’s eights race, the Oxford and Cambridge Cup went missing. It was later discovered in the possession of Harry Whiting, the stroke of the victorious Melbourne University Boat Club (MUBC) crew in that year. Another near-death incident for this valuable trophy occurred in 1995 when Duncan Ashby (another victorious MUBC crew member) tested its ability to float. Fortunately it did not sink to the bottom of Lake Wendouree. Ozdaren 17:15, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good thing Wendouree's no deeper than three feet at any point.--Yeti Hunter 12:06, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Three feet, more like three inches. Ah the good old days when it had water in it. A month ago you could walk on it. Ozdaren 16:46, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
FYI: http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2007/09/25/3099_gold-coast-news.html (25 September 2007) "The heavily insured trophy has had a few close calls over the years, such as when a victorious team's crew member tested its ability to float in 1995 at Lake Wendouree in Ballarat.." Gold Coast news: not only using Wikipedia as a source, but the talk pages as well!--Yeti Hunter (talk) 00:46, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think I got that out of one of the programmes I had from around that time. In 1995 I was too busy enjoying the post IV celebrations and social interactions to notice what MUBC were doing with the trophy. Ozdaren (talk) 16:42, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article structure etc

[edit]

This article is pretty fragmented. It jumps from describing the cup to describing the competition it is awarded for, which I think is appropriate for the article, but it makes for difficult reading. I've whacked some headings in there but it still needs some work. And citations, for that matter. --EDH 06:33, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well... as they say on WP be bold and get editing.Ozdaren 08:03, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Almost all data is available for all races here: http://www.rowinghistory-aus.info/university-championships/index.php. Do you think there should be any more columns in the table (eg, conditions)? Also, see List_of_colors#Colors_by_shade if you want to have a play with the colours.--Yeti Hunter (talk) 14:48, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
