History:

+	Palatine High School opened in 1874 to serve a small farming community located northwest of Chicago. Four school buildings and more than 125 years later, our current school was built to challenge and manage a growing population of middle-class suburban students. The new building, situated among houses, apartments, and condominiums in Palatine, a community of over 57,000 residents, was designed to accommodate all students, including the area's physically challenged population.
	+
+	Today, Palatine High School has a 26% cultural minority student body, and incomes in the community vary greatly among families. More than 16% of our student population qualifies for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, and our ESL population has more than doubled since the fall of 1991. Because we find many ways to celebrate and embrace our cultural diversity, PHS and its Cultural Awareness Program have become models at the state and national levels. Our school graduates 96% of its students.

Notable Graduates

[edit]

As a recent graduate of Fremd High School a few miles away, I visited the PHS campus frequently. Jamie Watanabe is recognized by the school as a "Distinguished Graduate" according to the Alumni Board. While I would agree that she is far from being "famous", the fact that she is indeed recognized by the school as a Distinguished Graduate should have her be placed in the article. --TheAznSensation 11:05, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is that a joke? I am an administrator at PHS right now. The Alumni Board? Give me a break. Do not abuse Wikipedia or embarrass Palatine High School further. She is not indeed recognized for anything other than having been a pleasant student here. Please list the 20,000 other graduates who were either on student council, NHS, scholarship athletes, scholarship for academics, arts, etc. Do not denigrate the efforts of the other graduates by listing your buddy because you think that it is funny. Your identity is public. Do not embarrass yourself further.

  • Can we stop listing that pathetic news anchor and random graduates as notable alumni? These people are not changing human history or affecting political policy. They are not developing new cures, schools of thought, nor anything identifiable as a lasting contribution to humanity. Let's have some fucking standards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dropempty (talkcontribs) 06:56, 7 May 2007
Well, Carol Marin is unquestionably notable, at least within the Chicago area. Sal Fasano is at least notable enough to get a WP article. And although Alec Cyganowski doesn't yet have a WP page, googling him does turn up his band Powerspace, which is at least good enough to be touring nationally; seems notable enough to me. /blahedo (t) 05:24, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(indent) there seems to be problems again with adding alumni to this article that are not notable. Check out WP:WPSCH/AG#Alumni for guidelines regarding which alumni should be added. In general, an individual either already has to have an article written about them (blue link), or would have to meet the notability guidelines to be eligible to have an article written about them. There are occasional exceptions, but this is a pretty hard and fast rule. Alumni who do not appear to meet notability guidelines will be deleted with regularity. Good luck and happy editing!
