Introduction
[edit]I think the top of the page should have a brief synopsis of what the play is about. Isn't that more important that who starred in the original production? 204.52.215.9 (talk) 18:43, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Improvements
[edit]Anyone object to me making some changes to match the other articles on musicals? A few new sections, (Productions, Recordings, any more?), expand the plot into two acts and generally make a start on turning this into a real article. Comments, ideas, recipes? Docta247 08:05, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- The section "History" reads like Original Research--it realy needs to be referenced. I won't tag it with the dreaded "Original Research" or "needs references" or anything else, but it could easily be objected to.JeanColumbia 14:50, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I believe a lot of this section to be unnecessary and also that it doesn't really reflect the "history" of this musical. However I don't want to act unilaterally and remove content that people have taken time over. Perhaps a prune is in order. Docta247 15:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, Jean. That's much better! - Ssilvers 18:28, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Removed response to Edinburgh Fringe show
[edit]I have removed the line regarding "standing ovations" and such at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe production. This isn't an article about that production, and I have done some searching around and haven't found any similar statement about a major production of a musical, let alone a short-run fringe production. Docta247 10:22, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that such language is unencyclopedic. There would be nothing wrong with quoting a published review, but to simply state that a show was a sell out, or received standing ovations is not appropriate. I also doubt that we need to say who music directed and conducted a production, unless the person was particularly notable. We usually only note directors and, in a dancing show, choreographers. Same for designers: unless the designers are famous, or the show won a design award, we usually don't mention them. Best regards, -- Ssilvers 13:51, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Assessment
[edit]Good job, everyone. I upgraded the assessment to B. -- Ssilvers 17:13, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think this is a brilliant improvement. A good day's work! Docta247 17:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
"Emotional backbone"
[edit]Can anyone find a reference for the discussion of the songs? If not, I think some of the references have a discussion of the emotional impact of the show in general that can be quoted or noted with a reference? Or, perhaps, some discussion of what reviews say? -- Ssilvers 17:24, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Super, Jean!! -- Ssilvers 18:23, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Notability of productions
[edit]Ssilvers, you raised the point about whether the productions listed are the most important. The Irish one appears to be an amateur drama group, and the showing at the Edinburgh festival, despite being the UK premiere, isn't of particular note. I'm not convinced they should even be there. I have no comment on the Australian production though as there isn't enough info really. I definitely think the UK Donmar production should stay as that's a fairly big deal. Docta247 18:39, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Good thoughts. I'd say that after the Donmar production opens, we should delete the reference to the Edinburgh Fringe production. If we can verify that the Irish production was just one of the many amateur productions, I would suggest deleting it. I bet there have been other foreign professional productions that we should add, but don't have time to weed through the references. If you can get to it, be my guest, but I've to to get back to work. Best regards, and thanks for all the good contributions! -- Ssilvers 21:29, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Paradesoundtrack.jpg
[edit]Image:Paradesoundtrack.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hope Mill Theatre, Manchester
[edit]There has recently been a bit of to-and-fro over the addition of material about a production at the Hope Mill Theatre, Manchester by 131156pjh. They have stated here that their daughter was one of the cast members. Rather than continue the edit-warring over the content, this should be discussed properly before coming to a consensus as to whether to include this or not. 131156pjh, I will leave a note on your talk page about this and point you to a few of the policies and guidelines that you may not have heard of, but that you should be made aware of first. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 08:26, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Many thanks for you informative and comprehensive reply, I am as you may well have guessed new to 'WikiTalk' and being able to 'Edit' pages and certainly don't want to get into any EDIT WARRING! I was simply re-inserting what had been done back in May 2016 by the production team and thought it had been deleted by mistake, and was doing something wrong in the mean time when it kept disappearing. The production was indeed held at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester and was probably its first full run of a major musical theatre event, however it has gone from strength to strength in the years after and has continued to excel given its humble beginnings, the latest being a gala evening hosted by Stephen Swartz (Wicked). I might add that all the performers then and since are professional actors and actresses, who have successful careers in musical theatre and the addition of the material was in recognition of the efforts that Hope Mill made and continues to make to bring performances to an audience that perhaps feel a little daunted at the thought of going to more main stream theatres. I will await the adjudication of the ongoing discussion and abide by its decision131156pjh (talk) 11:15, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hello. It was certainly not a mistake. Parade is a musical that has been presented over 100 times. We can only discuss the most significant productions that have had long runs in major markets at major theatres with casts that include mostly, or at least several, blue-linked persons.. I am doubtful that the Manchester production is noteworthy. In addition, the material added is entirely unreferenced, which is a threshold matter. Whenever you add new information to Wikipedia, you must cite Reliable published sources that indicate the importance of the information being added. The production in Los Angeles with the mostly blue-linked cast should be added to the article, not the Manchester production. -- Ssilvers (talk) 11:57, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi. I think you mean "It certainly was not a mistake" don't you! Grammatically speaking of course131156pjh (talk) 14:13, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Short-run Concert Production
[edit]Hello @Ssilvers, Encores cast list are common on Broadway Wiki pages. 3 of the last 4 productions have their Encores cast lists displayed alongside other major productions. Into the Woods, Mack and Mabel, The Tap Dance Kid, Anyone Can Whistle, and more. This production of Parade is the first major production in 15 years, it’s being conducted by the original composer, I believe it’s mainstream enough to have its cast list included alongside the Broadway and Tour productions. Trident416 (talk) 21:50, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- They should all be removed from cast tables. Instead, they can be described in the Productions sections. As the WP:MUSICALS project has discussed, cast tables should list only long-running major-market productions. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:08, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Woah. There is no reason to talk like that. Could you provide the link to the page where cast tables are discussed on WP musicals? I can't seem to find it. Thanks. Please remember we're talking about Wikipedia pages here, there's no need to be unkind to others. Trident416 (talk) 23:13, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- I did not write that, My comment was vandalized. -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:06, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, casting tables should only include long-running (more than a year) major market productions. Other major productions should be described in the productions sections with notable cast mentioned. In addition to running less than a week, Encores! and other short-running productions, and concert productions with limited staging do not belong in the cast tables. -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:46, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Headings for Production History
[edit]@Ssilvers I don't understand the problem with the heading "Original Broadway Production" for this show. The show is being revived on Broadway this year so it is only fitting that we change the heading for the show's original run to that so that readers don't get the information mixed up. I hope we can come to an agreement here. Smitty1999 (talk) 23:36, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- Three problems. First, you don't need the word "production". This is the Productions section, and all the subheadings are about various productions. Second, you don't need the word original. The original Broadway/West End productions will be listed near the top of the section, and the subsequent productions will need the word revival. Third, generally, only the first word in a heading and proper nouns should have an initial capital. Other words in headings should be written in lower case letters. So, this heading should be "Broadway". -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:33, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, but there should still be something on the heading indicating it's the original production. If we cannot use the words "original" & "production", then maybe add the years the production opened. I have seen that on other wiki pages for musicals. So, maybe change the heading to "Broadway (1998)". That should be better as we would be adding the year 2023 for when the "planned" revival opens. Hope you can agree on that. Smitty1999 (talk) 13:27, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- No, it should not. It is presented first, and the paragraph does clearly present the date. It is obviously the original. Also, adding a future date violates WP:CRYSTAL. How do we know it will open on a date we cannot see the future. Lots of shows were scheduled to open in 2020, and then they were postponed due to covid. Do not say things "will" happen on a date in the future. All we can say is that they are planned to open on a future date. They can be postponed over and over again. This is an encyclopedia. We describe important (noteworthy) things. If something hasn't happened yet, it is less important. -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:29, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, please chill! I don't want to be on bad terms here. It's not like I am not trying to put false information on this page which some people do. Clearly, you and I were taught differently when it comes to headings. I am a creative person and was just trying to make the page look nice. That's all. Smitty1999 (talk) 21:52, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

2025 US Tour
[edit]I added a column for the upcoming U.S. National tour. Two of the main characters have been announced, and I left the rest as TBD. If this is unacceptable to do, please feel free to undo my revision and I'll understand. Goosman99 (talk) 20:51, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. Productions do not go in tables or the IB until after they have begun performances (wait until you can cite a source that states that performances have actually begun). Very often musicals are postponed. If you have casting info, you can add it to the Productions section where the production is described. -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:56, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
