Notability of Valedictorian question

[edit]

A new user has just added the 2006 high school valedictorian with a reliable source, but the valedictorian herself does not appear to be notable. An IP user has added this repeatedly over the past few months and I have reverted it each time, but I want to ask here about this. Are valedictorians automatically notable? Should this person be included in the article or not? Thanks Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:10, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see why a valedictorian is inherently notable. The WP:SCH policy notes that it isn't a good idea to list ephemeral informaiton like current students and faculty. If the valedictorian subsequently did something else notable, I could see a reason for inclusion, noting the new activity.
In any case, was this a school district valedictorian, or was she a valedictorian at one of the schools? This may not be the right page even if she were particularly notable. And even if it belongs here, it would need a new subject heading tag, it doesn't belong in the section where it has been repeatedly inserted. Loren.wilton (talk) 03:50, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your repsonse - my general policy with Notable residents (typically in municipality articles) is to remove red link or no link persons. If they are notable, then an article can be written about them and they can be added back in. I will remove the valedictorian now and notify the user who added her of this. PS I believe there is only one high school in this district, but that the high school does not have its own article. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:41, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree completely. Loren.wilton (talk) 07:29, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
IMHO, I'd say that they were not at all notable, definitely less than any teacher, and they rarely meet notability standards.
