The Perdido Key Black Rat has completely taken over habitat previously occupied by the Perdido Beach Mouse. The wildlife biologist trapped and otherwise eliminated natural predators such as ferral cats, fox, skunk, and cayotes. The Black Rats proliferate. Presumably the Black Rats would prey on the Beach Mice if they had not already eaten then all.
