Vegetable Ivory should have its own page

[edit]

I followed a vegetable ivory link here, so I assume there had been an article on that subject that was merged. I removed the picture of a carving from Namibia that was labelled as being made from tagua; given the origin, it's unlikely that the pictured item was made from Phytelephas. I suspect this was carved from Hyphaene. Given that vegetable ivories can come from other palms (Hyphaene, Metroxylon), I think it's pretty misleading to have no article on that subject and to have vegetable ivory redirect to Phytelephas/tagua. There's a little info here on some other vegetable ivories: http://waynesword.palomar.edu/pljan99.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.246.208.52 (talk) 00:13, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation

[edit]

Is it /ta.gwa/ or /ta.gu.a/ ? Can a native South American Spanish or Portuguese speaker, or someone else familiar with the material, please advise? -- Photosynthetic430 (talk) 17:06, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to Wiktionary, it's /ta.gwa/. Editing accordingly. Photosynthetic430 01:35, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
