Can someone identify what the multiple issues are instead of just tagging it as such? This is a work in progress. Ramapoughnative (talk) 13:38, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

can someone explain why this site was renamed from Pompton(native americans) to Pompton people? the Pompton Indians were part of the Treaty of Easton, so yes, they were Native Americans. Ramapoughnative (talk) 19:10, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Check out Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America#Naming conventions for the lengthy discussion about naming Native articles. "Pompton people" is in keeping with the other major articles about Native groups. There's no suggestion that the group isn't Native American. -Uyvsdi (talk) 19:21, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

Actually after more research, it appears "Pompton" is simply a synonym for Wappinger, so I proposed a merge. Please comment at Talk:Wappinger#Pompton people merge proposal. -Uyvsdi (talk) 19:41, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

I'm removing the merge proposal because the only respondee was against. BTW only mention of "Pompton" in the Ramapough Mountain Indians article lists them as another name for Wappinger. If that is not in fact the case, that should probably be changed, with citations. -Uyvsdi (talk) 03:19, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]
