The opening paragraph needs an edit.

[edit]

Specifically, the sentence "The leib guard of Catherine the Great and main supporter of the bloodless coup against her husband, Peter III was elected to the main honourable regiment for demonstration after 14 July 1762." appears to be poorly (and incompletely) translated, probably from German. I have not researched this topic, but I would change the above sentence to "The life-guard of Catherine the Great, as well as the main supporter of her bloodless coup against her husband Peter III, this regiment was elected [by whom? perhaps, "declared"?] the highest in order of military precedence from 14 July 1762.", depending on the meaning of that last clause, which I read as saying that the Preobrazhenskys got to march first in parades, got to stand closest to the Empress in formal review, etc. If no one objects, I will make the change in a week or so. Russian wikipedia explains this as body-guard, from German leib = body + Latin guardia = guard. I'll make the change. -- BPMullins | Talk 21:13, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just a minor point here

[edit]

The Colors of St. George and the Order of St. George are two entirely separate things. The Colors of St. George were a type of banner issued to regiments which distinguished themselves. In the Napoleonic Era, for instance, I believe it was generally held alongside the 1st battalion's standard. It was, to the Russian army, more or less the equivalent of the French Imperial Eagle. The Order of St. George is, as linked, an award given to individuals for military service. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.90.113.246 (talk) 09:19, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

==A minor grammar point. Definite article "the" plus number takes "was". "Number" takes "fewer", volume takes "less"Ann.landrey (talk) 15:17, 9 December 2012 (UTC) ==Gendarmie should be gendarmarieAnn.landrey (talk) 15:24, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

hyphenation

[edit]

The lead has "life-guards" hyphenated, while the title does not. They should be the same, no? ~TPW 18:33, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
