Text moved from article to talk page
[edit]The following text was inserted by another editor without supplying a source and has the appearance of original research:
- The Wayans Brothers are currently in negotiations to purchase the Army Base and convert it into a film production studio.[citation needed]
- As a result of this isolation, combined with the crack epidemic of the 1980's, crime in the Lower Bottoms rose substantially.[citation needed]
If someone can source these statements, either can be added back into the article. Anlace 03:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- The Wayans Brothers have been in discussions with the City Council/Redevelopment Agency...this is fact and is far from original research. A link to a news story on this would help build out the article though.Critical Chris (talk) 15:14, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Suggested guide for inclusion of Oakland neighborhoods
[edit]Since there's an ongoing dispute over several articles about Oakland neighborhoods and whether these articles (mostly about very small areas, or in some cases about housing projects), I'd like to propose a guide for which entities should be considered valid for inclusion as neighborhoods.
The Oakland Museum of California has a very nice web page that lets one browse a map of the city and look at neighborhoods and districts. (Caution: requires Flash.) I'd like to suggest that since this map has been compiled by an eminently reputable source, the Museum, that it can serve as a pretty good guide to whether a neighborhood in Oakland actually exists and should be included here. +ILike2BeAnonymous (talk) 06:54, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Many of these names, such as "Lower Bottoms", "Dogtown" and "Ghost Town" are informal names given by locals in the area, so the designations are hazy. I personally believe this article should remain, given the historic nature of the area (7th Street, the Boxcar Unions, etc), and no other name designation has been given to this area of West Oakland.--Chimino (talk) 13:11, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
