Priozyorsk?
[edit]Is Britannica using an incorrect or outdated transcription in writing only Priozyorsk and not even mentioning Priozersk? Google produces only one hit with
site:edu Priozyorsk
but many with
site:edu Priozersk

- According to the locals, "Priozersk" is correct, and "Priozyorsk" is not. That, however, needs to be verified. The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (which more often than not distinguishes between "e" and "yo") uses "Priozersk" (Приозерск) as the title of the article, but refers to the town as "Priozyorsk" (Приозёрск) from other articles. Also, the list of GSE's article references, funnily enough, consists of one book called (drum roll, please) "Приозёрск". I'd say "Priozyorsk" is a common misspelling/mispronunciation; one for which Britannica fell as well (Britannica isn't really very good when it comes to consistency of spelling of Russian geo-names, by the way), but it's really hard to tell for sure which variant is correct. It's all those yo-haters' fault! Hope this helps.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 17:11, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
