A bit different type of review here because I'm also looking for and spotting "Spanish-first, English-second" constructions in this GAN. Overall, well done and needing some copy fixes. Ping me when ready. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 15:29, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated.

Lead

[edit]
  • Founded in 2000, the restaurant has undergone renovations. It started as a restaurant focused on Asian and American cuisine with a few Mexican elements. The "renovation" here doesn't quite fit right. Neither does "renewal". Try Founded in 2000, Pujol started as a restaurant focused on Asian and American cuisine with a few Mexican elements.

Description

[edit]
  • , table reservations will last from 2:30 to 3 hours try "two and a half to three" instead of "2:30 to 3"
  • Pujol approached molecular gastronomy techniques for its plates. I don't think this use of "aproximar" from Spanish works here, and I'd also translate platos in this sense as dishes, not plates. I'd try Pujol's dishes adopt techniques from molecular gastronomy.

History

[edit]
  • In 2017, Pujol was relocated from Francisco Petrarca Street to Tennyson Street, both in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City. The restaurant added varieties of tacos subsequently. The newer location is a house built in the 1950s. Try reordering: In 2017, Pujol was relocated from Francisco Petrarca Street to a 1950s-built house on Tennyson Street, both in the Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City. The restaurant added varieties of tacos subsequently.
  • Javier Sánchez intervened in architecture and Micaela de Bernardi in interior design. Not an idiomatic use of "intervene" in English. Perhaps Javier Sánchez was the architect and Micaela de Bernardi the interior designer for the renovation.
  • For its sustainability actions, the United Nations rewarded the restaurant in the same year. "recognized", not "rewarded", here.

Reception

[edit]
  • Kayla Webley Adler recommended visit Pujol for Elle magazine and she suggested the restaurant helped the city become a "foodie mecca". This sentence needs a little tweaking, especially the "recommended visit". For Elle magazine, Kayla Webley Adler recommended visiting Pujol, suggesting that the restaurant helped the city become a "foodie mecca".
    • The correct way to say this would be "recommended visiting", but the structure of the surrounding sentence needed to be reflowed to make that work correctly. Note the change from recomendó visitar to "recommended visiting". The gerund is used instead of the infinitive in English in this structure.
  • Leslie Yeh from Lifestyle Asia consider it Singular subject and wrong tense: should be "considered" here.
  • Mariana R. Fomperosa recommended for Milenio visit the restaurant without expectations and leaving aside what has been said about the restaurant. We have the "recommended" error again. Try Mariana R. Fomperosa of Milenio recommended leaving aside expectations and hype when visiting Pujol; she found the food good but overrated.
  • Felipe Soto Viterbo rated Pujol with five out of five stars The "with" is unnecessary in English: e.g. "He rated the film five out of five stars".
  • He commented that it was unnecessary to recommend dishes as they vary constantly and might not be tasted by the reader, and that the restaurant does not go out of fashion despite the changes. Try He commented that it was unnecessary to recommend specific dishes, as they vary constantly and might not be tasted by the reader, and that despite its seasonal menu, Pujol "doesn't go out of style".
  • and considered that diners would be "blissful and stuffed" at the end of their meal This is the second "considered" in this sentence. Try a synonym.
  • In 2021, Ximena Abrín applied for a job at the restaurant and was put on probation for five days. "Probation" is another semi-false cognate here; it makes me think more of criminal justice. I'd try "a five-day trial period".
  • Her publication went viral and multiple former employees began to publish their experiences at Pujol, Comma after "viral" WP:CINS

Sourcing and spot checks

[edit]

Earwig flags the Spanish quote (included in a footnote) as well as some of the critical reviews/restaurant guide mentions, which are not only adequate but sometimes (in the case of the latter) rather necessary to include.

  • 3: the tasting menu, which is served in seven parts and is offered at tables in Pujol’s lounge; and the omakase or taco menu, which is inspired by the Japanese bar ritual in which the chef’s whims determine what the diners eat. The omakase menu is served in nine parts, primarily emphasizing tacos and corn-derived ingredients checkY
  • 26: Ranking is #1. checkY
  • 30: Proceso article: (The only thing it doesn't seem to contain is the last name, which Proceso did not print in full but El País did.) checkY
    • Five-day trial period
    • 16-hour workdays
    • Post goes viral and prompts others to talk about labor practices
  • 40: 2017 ranking shows Pujol at #20. checkY
  • 44: 2011 ranking shows Pujol at #49. checkY

@Sammi Brie: Thank you for the review. I'll work on it. (CC) Tbhotch 22:15, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the grammar corrections; it's where I fall short and these comments help me avoid them in the future. I reworded the phrases. I'll add the ALT text in a few minutes. (CC) Tbhotch 23:13, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I added the ALT text. I thought I had included generic "refer to the caption" alts, but I added descritive ones instead. (CC) Tbhotch 02:56, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
