Clarification

[edit]

hey, Renerpho, will copy your question to the talk page: Mannocchi et al. give possible launch dates of November-December 2026, April-May 2027, September-November 2027, or March-May 2028, with a launch in 2027 being the preferred option. The other two articles simply state that the latest launch opportunity is around April 2028, which does not imply that a launch in 2028 is expected (or desirable).

ESA says Ramses needs to launch in April 2028 to allow for an arrival at Apophis in February 2029, two months before the close approach. [1] and However, the Rapid Apophis Mission for Space Safety (Ramses) would need to launch in early 2028 in order to arrive at Apophis in time to study it as it passes Earth. [2]

Do you think the four dates from the paper should be included? I think we can wait for the official mission statement, though I'm ok to include it now. Artem.G (talk) 17:59, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Artem.G: I don't know if we need to go into so much detail. We'd probably have to explain why some of those are more desirable than others (available with less fuel, more optimal flight time, arrival dates...) Maybe saying that there are multiple possible launch windows between 2026 to 2028, with the latest being around April 2028, is enough? The issue with the current version (saying launch is planned for 2028) is that the 2028 launch window is not as good as the two in 2027. Renerpho (talk) 20:53, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
will read Mannocchi et al. when I'll have time, but feel free to rewrite the article! Artem.G (talk) 07:25, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
