Notarity and Conjecture

[edit]

A lot of the content of this article is unsourced conjecture and I question the notarity. 2601:983:4700:4F0:9C02:78D3:8712:87EB (talk) 07:34, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Literally nothing in the article is unsourced besides her appearance, which is common-sense obvious story material that anyone can see. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 09:18, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Image of Ranni

[edit]

Would it not make more sense to include an image of her in her normal human-sized form, instead of the miniature doll she eventually turns into? Krysler.m (talk) 05:45, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Main problem is trying to get a clean shot of the character for infobox purposes. The doll suffices for this.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 10:32, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thanks! Also on second thought the in-game description of the doll item says it perfectly resembles the previously human-sized Ranni, so I guess it really does not matter. Krysler.m (talk) 15:52, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ranni’s Role in the Story

[edit]

Ranni’s role in the story seems to have been edited many times since this article was created, bouncing back and forth from “villain” and “anti-villain”, with the current revision calling her the “antagonist”. As this is such a major part of her character, it should definitely be settled once and for all to avoid prolonged confusion. I’m not an expert on these literary terms, so I’m not sure myself which title is the most accurate, but this should be brought to light and discussed formally. Krysler.m (talk) 18:43, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to note that out of the three options, “antagonist” is by far the least accurate one, as an antagonist is described as a character who works against the main character, while the main character can not only serve Ranni, but also marry her and become her consort. While Ranni can become hostile towards the Tarnished, this only happens if the player turns on her first. Ranni never actively seeks out to hurt the Tarnished. Krysler.m (talk) 18:59, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
She is certainly not a pure villain, as she is not even fought by the main character, nor do critics agree her end goal is evil. "Supporting character" would also be correct, but I'm not sure that fully describes her role in the story as the person behind all of the game's events, which she blatantly admits she did via "fearsome rite" and led to the deaths of countless people and dozens of demigods. By all respects she is an "antivillain" who is there to accomplish an arguably non-evil goal by evil means, which she doesn't even mind being accused of. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 20:35, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Should her title be changed to “antivillain” until someone comes up with a better argument for another title? I’m not quite sure how these discussions work. Krysler.m (talk) 02:22, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
