John Dee, the English savant and mystic recorded in his diary that on the 22nd of February 1593 he met the bishop at the Tower of London, while dining there with the Lieutenant, Sir Michael Blunt and an angry exchange took place. The cause of the quarrel would appear to be over what Dee refers to as "The Nangle" the rectory of Angle in Pembrokeshire which Dee was presumably wanting to have. The bishop claimed that Dee already had "institution and induction" to this but was told that this was untrue. This sufficiently annoyed the cleric that he called Dee a "spiteful conjuror" not an epithet he was likely to take lightly. Dee responded by calling him liar and saying that "I would try on the flesh of him, or by a bastinado giving of him if he were not prisoner."
The bishop had been imprisoned at the Fleet, so why he should have been at the Tower is unclear. Perrot had been executed there in September of the previous year. Moebius999 (talk) 12:26, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
