Added this tag to encourage others to add to the historical info in this article. When time permits I will translate some stuff from German Wikipedia or the Historischen Lexikon der Schweiz. -- Rob C (Alarob) 00:48, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The tag belongs at the head of the article, not the talk page. Moving it there. -- ℜob C. alias ⒶⓁⒶⓇⓄⒷ 22:54, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Separate the list of bishops?

[edit]

Shall we create a separate article titled "List of bishops of Basel"? -- Rob C (Alarob) 19:39, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And/or should we format the list as at Archbishop of Vienna? -- Rob C (Alarob) 19:42, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Should this link to the german article de:Bistum Basel instead of de:Liste der Bischöfe von Basel, which is a list of the bishops rather than an article? --Astrokey44 08:20, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should! Also, it seems to me that there should be a Bishopric of Basel article covering (at least) the period up to the conquest of the Bishopric by Napoleon, and that this one should cover the history of the modern diocese. They are two different entities, although there is also continuity between them. One question that needs to be answered: When were the boundaries of the modern diocese established? -- ℜob C. alias ⒶⓁⒶⓇⓄⒷ 20:38, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How are bishops elected/chosen/appointed in this diocese?

[edit]

How are bishops in this diocese selected? I know there are still a handful of dioceses in Europe in which bishops are elected, rather than directly appointed by the pope. Is this one of them?

The Kurt Koch article states, "On 21 August 1995, Koch was elected Bishop of Basel; his election was confirmed by Pope John Paul II on the following 6 December." The Felix Gmür article states, "Gmür was chosen by an 18-head advisory council of the cantonal bishopric on 8 September but his nomination had to be approved by the pope.... Gmür was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI on 23 November 2010." These give hints as to how bishops are chosen in this diocese, but seem to be contradictory (Koch was "elected" locally, then "confirmed" by the pope; Gmür was "chosen" locally but then "appointed" by the pope. — Lawrence King (talk) 22:44, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
