Baroness Higgins

[edit]

Calling her Rt Hon or Baronness Higgins seems highly confusing. Yes she is married to a Baron, but while she is a Dame in her own right, she is neither a member of the House of Lords nor a Privy Councillor. --Henrygb 22:16, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone have any comment on this, or should a move to Rosalyn Higgins be requested? Johnhousefriday (talk) 22:10, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Tricky one, although I see the move has already been done. It is the old debate about title acquired by marriage vs. title held personally. She is certainly entitled to be called the Rt. Hon the Baroness Higging, being married to a Life Peer. However nowadays the common usage is that titles acquired by oneself are preferred over those acquired by marriage, unless it is a very high title. In this case, I think the move was right, since readers might think that she is a Peeress of her own right. However, the fact that she is a Baroness by marriage should be included in the article.

Doctorate

[edit]

Should "Dr." be in here title, since she has a doctorate? 129.180.1.224 (talk) 01:29, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
