Categories

[edit]

There's something not right with the categories in this article - can someone help me with them? cheers Horus Kol 16:11, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have put it into the standard form, but what you did worked just fine listing it under "B". This is the only cat needed as this is a daughter cat for others.

Are you confidant that use of the map is "fair use"? It comes from "Scout Base" does'nt it? If you are could you add them to the other County articles? --Bduke 22:08, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm 99.9% sure - I will look to get the other County maps... that'll be some work! Also, I'm trying to find decent maps of District divisions within the Counties, but haven't had much luck - http://www.wokinghamscouts.org.uk/where.htm has a brilliant one of Berkshire... might email them about Horus Kol 09:47, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

District Listings

[edit]

I'm wondering if we should have articles for each District? The County articles will end up as a long list of Groups otherwise Horus Kol 11:25, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a consensus that Districts and Groups are not notable enough for articles. Why is it necessary to list all Groups? They are probably difficult to keep up to date and the Scout web sites list them. I would like to see more more history, something on oldest and largest groups leaving most groups off the article, but that is just my opinion. --Bduke 11:55, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hmm... i had a think - and I've added Reading Central groups to the list... groups don't change that often within a district, so I don't think maintenance is too much of an issue. I think it is important to have the information, and highlight anything notable about particular groups (like a founder troop, or something like the new Muslim groups).

Three Towers Hike

[edit]

I've added a section with link to the wiki page for the Three Towers Hike. This hike is organised by Reading Central District and has entries from many Berkshire groups. If anyone familiar with the hike wants to add more detail to either this or the main hike page, please feel free to do so! Reue (talk) 15:36, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Uk-scouts-district-badge-taceham-hundred.gif

[edit]

Image:Uk-scouts-district-badge-taceham-hundred.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Notability

[edit]

I have consulted with another editor - outside of Scouting. Assuming good faith, I'm afraid that I cannot see that these new sites fit in with Wikipedia as they appear effectively nothing more than a list of branches of The Scout Association. For further information on this please see the section Wikipedia is not a soapbox on Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, notably the section on advertising. Even when open to Groups of all Associations these pages were of suspect standard, and closing them to independent Groups has not helped in any way.

I suggest returning them to their original format, a new format that allows all Scouting in a County to be reported, or, alternatively, deleted as inappropriate. -- DiverScout (talk) 18:55, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
