Major Rewrite
[edit]I've started a major rewrite of the page, expanding especially the details of what's in the gardens. I have added image galleries and will get some better images soon. I will continue with the page in the next day or two. Stuart midgley (talk) 15:22, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Stuart midgley: Hi there. I've built on your content, the majority of which has been sourced from the NSW State Heritage Register as part of a project to included on Wikipedia every article listed on the various Australian national and state heritage registers. Would you mind reviewing my edits and provide feedback / edit directly? Many thanks. Rangasyd (talk) 11:19, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
Some better and more significant pictures than a tree?
[edit]Does anyone agree that there should be more/better pictures in this artcile than a tree??? I mean it doesnt exactly represent much of the garden Jackp 06:22, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds good, but I dont know if any other free images are available --Astrokey44 10:39, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
I'll search for them and when I found them, I'll post the link here and you or who ever else can add them Jackp 09:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Got a picture! It may need to be scaled down, though-here is the link: [1] Jackp 09:15, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
There's a number of much better pictures in Wikimedia Commons so I'm going to make a gallery. I think a gallery is justified in this case as I'll choose ones that give a direct impression of the gardens and the major features within them. Stuart midgley (talk) 11:51, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
Copyvio
[edit]Can someone double check as much of the text is copied from [2]. It seems to have been edited in by User:Jackp (surprise, surprise). I haven't got the time right now to work out what is a copy and what can stay, so this is as much a reminder to me to fix, unless someone has time to check! --Steve (Stephen) talk 10:07, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- I removed most of the history as a copy vio from the link above --Steve (Stephen) talk 02:30, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Flying foxes
[edit]What was the result of playing loud music to the flying foxes? Wanderer57 (talk) 21:28, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
They were finally chased out in about 2013 I think - they're not there any more. I'll find some references and update the section. Stuart midgley (talk) 11:52, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
Plural or singular?
[edit]Could someone weigh in as to whether this the Royal Botanic Garden or the Royal Botanic Gardens? Most sources in print seem to prefer the plural, but the institution's website has it as a singular everywhere except in its heading. Maddening for the copy editors among us. -- grant (talk) 19:03, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
- I've just looked up both the act of parliament and the subsidiary regulations that govern the gardens. Both use the plural 'Royal Botanic Gardens' in the titles and through the text when talking about the governing organisation as a whole, i.e. collectively referring the Sydney gardens and the Mount Annan and Mount Tomah gardens that the trust also manages. In the 'Definitions' section of the current regulations it says that the collective term 'the Gardens' means the Mount Tomah garden, the Mount Annan garden and 'the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney'. So I guess it's plural in the name of the governing trust but singular when referring to the Sydney garden specifically. Stuart midgley (talk) 11:51, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
- Confirmed, singular. The Royal Botanic Garden (singular) is located in The Domain. The gardens (plural) refers to the Trust and the various gardens administered by the Trust, including the RBG, Mount Annan, Mount Tomah and, more recently, Centennial Parklands (inclusive of Centennial Park, Moore Park, and Queens Park).
