Rename

Propose renaming article from "Russian naval base" to "Russian naval facility" in order to bring description in line with official statements by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.Федоров (talk) 05:24, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Manning of Russian facility

To assert that "sources make it clear" there are no military is to say that the Russian Defense Ministry doesn't know what is going on at its only official foreign military facility. It was the Russian Defense Ministry that denied that the other report, not attributed to either authoritative or presumably knowledgable persons, was accurate. Certainly, four military personnel (plus one dog and one cat) is a pretty token presence but it makes more sense than civilians. Please specify which "sources" make it clear there are only civilians. I have not found them referenced in this Wiki article.Moryak (talk) 21:43, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In Ref1 it says "It was said that there was no one single Russian military employed at the sustainment center in Tartus. The center is serviced by civil personnel only." That wouldn't directly translate to the Russian military doesn't know whats going on just because their military personnel aren't on site when there are "civil personnel" still there. The section on the civil war in Syria is woefully out of date and needs to be updated.

Slight change

I changed "Tartus is the Russian Navy's only Mediterranean repair and replenishment spot" to "Tartus is the Russian Navy's only Mediterranean repair and replenishment point". Name after 2017

So after 2017, the 720th Material-Technical Support Point of the Russian Navy in Syria (the official name listed on the article page) was no longer classified as a Material-Technical Support Point. So did it keep the name despite no longer being a Material-Technical Support Point or did it change it?
