• Also note that Oberleutnant zur See Wolfgang von Tirpitz, son of Großadmiral Alfred von Tirpitz, was taken prisoner of war following the sinking of SMS Mainz. According to HRS p. 38. First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill, via the US embassy in Berlin, informed von Tirpitz that his son was safe.
