Clean this up
This article could really use some Cleaning up.
To avoid further confusion with the line of Nike sneakers, could someone please edit the word "huarache" so it stops redirecting to this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.206.154.150 (talk) 12:37, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- and what about huarache as in the food? why is it redirecting to here? 75.37.36.249 (talk) 01:34, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- To address these issues, I created a disambiguation page at Huarache. - AKeen (talk) 20:18, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Etymology of the word from ancient Hebrew?
I've seen the term "Sandal", transliterated exactly as written, in ancient Hebrew scripture, namely the Bible and the Mishnah. Does anyone know authoritatively the etymology of the word to be from Biblical or Mishnaic Hebrew? --Valley2cityShalom‽ 08:40, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I've got to ask...
Of all the articles on Wikipedia, why on Earth has this one attracted so much vanalisim all of a sudden?--75.57.240.242 03:53, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Formal wear
Certain kinds of female high-heel sandals are considered acceptable formal wear, but this was not alway so - when did they achieve social acceptability? Drutt (talk) 03:57, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
I'd like to know the same thing; I've always thought them to be egregiously tacky. The minor furor raised in 2005 when a a number of young women from a college lacrosse team wore flip-flops on a visit to the White House[1] and again in 2011 regarding President Obama's wearing of the same while on vacation [2] illustrates clearly, in my mind, that this is not a fashion with blanket acceptance by either the fashion community (who arguably have no connection to the real world) nor from the actual consumers of such fashoins. I don't buy the whole "you're not in our generation so you don't understand," line that a member of the girls lacrosse team gave, either - I'm not that old. Personally, I don't consider sandals - heeled or otherwise - acceptable for formal occasions or even office environments: they're an extension of flip-flops in my mind, and all the less-than-sanitary conditions that go with them. Perhaps the notation of acceptability as formal wear needs citations with reference to specific locale / cultural acceptability. Besieged (talk) 20:11, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Move
Sandal (footwear) → Sandals — Sandals is always plural, also the (footwear) can be left out as the other sandal names can only be singular (cities) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.245.64.171 (talk) 11:29, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. You can have one sandal. It's not like scissors, which is always plural. Plural should only be used in the article title when the title is "always in a plural form in English", or when it's one of the exceptions listed at WP:PLURAL#Exception. Jafeluv (talk) 19:38, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose for reasons already outlined above. --DAJF (talk) 22:44, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:PLURAL
— V = I * R (talk) 00:32, 12 August 2009 (UTC) - Oppose per WP:PILE-ON. Seriously, there is a case to be made for the article to be at sandal (without a disambiguator) per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. — AjaxSmack 05:08, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- It wouldn't bother me to have both Sandal and Sandals redirect to Sandal (footwear) (or, some combination of those two or three page titles). The disambiguator would then need to be moved to Sandal (disambiguation), of course. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC is easily applicable, after all. That's a slightly different request then what was presented, but that's doesn't really change anything.

- I would support a move to Sandal. This is by far the most common search target for that title. Jafeluv (talk) 10:09, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Sandal (footwear) → Sandal — See if people think that the footwear (singular) is a dominant meaning. And move the existing Sandal to Sandal (disambiguation). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 14:15, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Sandal (footwear) → Sandal — Sandal (footwear) is the dominant meaning. Delete the page called Sandal and move the page called Sandal (footwear) to Sandal. Relisting to get more input. --Evosoho (talk) 22:16, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

- I don't think that this needs further discussion. This movereq is the same as the previous one. I think that Evosoho may just be confused about what's happened here. Ultimately, the support for listing this article (Sandal (footwear)) at Sandal and the DAB page at Sandal (disambiguation) is unanimous, and clearly supported by WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.

Probably vandalism
This fragment near the beginning makes no sense. I'm flagging it.....

File:Men's size 10 Sandals.jpg to appear as POTD soon
Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Men's size 10 Sandals.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on March 30, 2011. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2011-03-30. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 17:09, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Variants v See Also rationale
What is the rationale for excluding some forms of sandal from the Variants section and instead listing in the See Also section? I'm particularly thinking about Flip Flops but I also wonder about all the other entries in the See Also list. Mandolamus (talk) 11:53, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
