On the Scouts of China article, User:Kintetsubuffalo insists on putting a Tag about the article missing information about the era during Japanese rule. Yet this article is not about scouting in Taiwan, it is about a specific organization that was started by the ROC in Mainland China. Whatever the Japanese did on Taiwan before 1945 has nothing to do with this organization. Currently, the article is complete, with it's history starting in Mainland Taiwan then going to Taiwan. User:Kintetsubuffalo claims it is for background, yet Like I said, the background of this organization lies in Mainland China. There is a separate Scouting in Taiwan article, and the Japanese info should go there. T-1000 (talk) 17:00, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ITYM, Mainland China, not Mainland Taiwan. I think the closest comparison to this situation would be the South Korea, and Korea Scout Association does mention Scouting in the Japanese Empire prior to 1945. I would say that Scouting in the Japanese empire (specifically what occured in Taiwan) definitely belongs in the following articles Scouting in the Republic of China, Scouts of Japan, and Taiwan under Japanese rule#Culture with the highest amount of information in Scouting in the Republic of China. A mention *should* be made in Scouts of China when information is available - Perhaps changing (leaving any existing links alone)

The Chinese Scout Association was reorganized in 1950 on the island of Taiwan, and resumed the membership of the International Scout Bureau as Boy Scouts of China (BSC) and later Scouts of China

The Chinese Scout Association was reorganized in 1950 on the island of Taiwan. [[Scouting in the Republic of China|Scouting on Taiwan]] had been under [[Scout Association of Japan#Early Years|Boy Scouts of Japan]] prior to World War II. The Chinese Scout Association resumed the membership of the International Scout Bureau as Boy Scouts of China (BSC) and later Scouts of China

Well, if you look through the edit histories, I did try linking to Scouting in Japan, but that was reverted by User:Kintetsubuffalo without any explanation. And While the Korea Scout Association was always in Korea, the Scouts of China was founded in Mainland China, then an enemy to Taiwan. T-1000 (talk) 19:16, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Note, the Japanese Wikipedia does not appear to be any help. The page on Boy Scouting http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%9C%E3%83%BC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B9%E3%82%AB%E3%82%A6%E3%83%88 while focused on Scouting in Japan as opposed to worldwide, does not appear (looked at through google translate, yeah, I know...) to have any information on the Boy Scouts of Japan elsewhere in the Japanese Empire.Naraht (talk) 20:41, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Response to third opinion request:
Absent any explanation of why the article on the organization Scouts of China, which was not present on Taiwan during the period of Japanese rule, should have history on the scouting in Taiwan during a period it was not present, I have removed the template. I have also added a brief mention, per Naraht's suggestion, that scouting was handled previously by the Japanese under their period of rule. Since User:Kintetsubuffalo has provided little to go on in terms of argument beyond reverting the changes as "wrong," and this organization bears no overt relationship to any previous scouting Japanese scouting organization, I believe this is the way it should stand unless he can provide some substantial reasoning why that template is required.—— chro • man • cer  20:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. The sentence the Chromancer added to the article is sufficient. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request - article text related to image

[edit]

It was not immediately clear that there is text in the article which utilizes the image: 10th World Scout Jamboree (Scouts of China).png . If not, this lack could jeopardize the presence of the image in the article or even in Wikipedia as a whole. Could you check on this and fix if needed? Thanks. Cite for the name change?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 22:37, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. They've changed the Chinese name, but have left "The General Association of the Scouts of China" as the name on their website. Absent a source indicating a deliberate and official change in the English name, this page should not be moved.--Jiang (talk) 23:18, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The name of Scouts of China

[edit]

According to the Article 1 of the Article of the General Association of the Scouts of China in the newest version (May 15, 2011, Traditional Chinese version is here):

the English name of Scouts of China has not changed. This is Taiwania Formosania speaking (Knock knock) 11:05, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hanyu Pinyin vs. Tongyong Pinyin

[edit]

Please do not change the Hanyu Pinyin after the Chinese characters to Tongyong Pinyin. The claim that Taiwan "does not use Hanyu Pinyin" is false, as it has been the official romanization in Taiwan since 2009 (see Tongyong Pinyin). Furthermore, the purpose of adding a romanization after the Chinese characters is to help readers who don't know how to read the characters. I believe that far more readers of English Wikipedia understand Hanyu Pinyin than understand Tongyong Pinyin, regardless of what some Tongyong proponents might wish. Perhaps, but your claim of vandalism is a lie at worst and a violation of assume good faith at least-worse. You've done nothing in a way that would qualify as best practice.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 00:58, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that my comments were too terse. Thanks for calling me on this---I will try to provide more information in the future. To put my actions in context, I was reverting unilateral edits, many of which violated NPOV, to over a dozen pages by this user, who proceeded to edit war with multiple editors, refusing all attempts at discussion. See his/her talk and Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Phlar (talk) 01:22, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That was big of you, thanks!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 04:54, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
