Can someone check the engineering?

The article says the "first iron bridge" was ... capable of "withstanding pressures of four kilos per square meter". I'm underwhelmed; a bridge made of cardboard could withstand four kilograms per square meter. Or does "kilo" stand for something other than kilogram? What should we do with this claim?
