MMA Record

[edit]

it would be nice if someone could work on that, i would myself but i dont have time for such a long record.Sepulwiki 01:45, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

This article reads like Shannon wrote it himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.64.111.170 (talk) 03:57, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

-->I will be undertaking the daunting task of fixing the record on this wiki entry. I will be using Sherdog's fightfinder to compare the records and see what needs fixing. This may take a number of days so please be patient. Dachknanddarice (talk) 17:19, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

-->I have concluded my changes to this article. I hope it conforms a litle better to the MMA wiki project guidelines. Dachknanddarice (talk) 00:50, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shannon's fights before 1998

[edit]

Someone has put in this entry that because there was no internet around 1998 (which I don't know how you can claim the internet only started in 1998, but I digress), that Sherdog has no record of Shannon's fights before then. They also claim that there are nearly 50 fights missing and that Shannon won most of them. Someone also added this "made up" record of missing fights into the infobox. No offense to Shannon but looking at his record, if he does have 50 more missing fights, I doubt that he won almost all of them.

I see that someone has asked for a reference but none has been given. In lieu of this, I've changed the infobox to only include the ACTUAL recorded fights listed from Sherdog and anywhere else I could look up Shannon's fight record. However, in the interest of not stepping on anyone's toes, I left the reference to Shannon's missing fights and put a note in the first recorded fight that mentions that it was the first fight that seems to be researchable from the internet.

If anyone can point me to an internet link that proves Shannon's fights and record before the first one in 1998, then feel free to add the reference and change the record. Otherwise, I think it's best if we stick to what we can prove (via the internet) rather than mess up records and infoboxes with purported fights that we cannot research and keep the record discrepencies to footnotes within the article.

If anyone takes umbridge with this, please let me know, I'm willing to listen. Dachknanddarice (talk) 00:50, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You really should delete that section outright. Sherdog's records go back much further than 1998, even for much more poorly documented foreign fighters. Rickson Gracie, for example, has fights listed as far back as 1980. He may have had a good amateur career or something (doubtful- Mr. Ritch has a reputation of being one of the worst all time), but it is absolutely inconceivable that 50 full professional fights are missing from ANYONE. Sounds like someone is trying to inflate their own record to me —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.90.1 (talk) 04:57, 23 July 2010 (UTC) I deleted the Missing Records section. Given that there's absolutely 0 evidence he ever fought before 1998, I don't think anyone will mind.[reply]

I love this. So someone is saying he went 59-9 (give or take) before 1998 and nobody documented such an amazing record? Worldwide names were getting a couple of fights a year back then and he is bagging 10+ a year without anyone writing it down? Was he in Fight Club and everyone was invoking rule #1? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.244.141.115 (talk) 18:30, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why do people keep reverting back to the false fight information. I have edited it properly. Wikipedia requires documentation. There is no documentation for these 60+ additional fights (all wins of course), and it should not have any place on this wikipedia. This fighter page is essentially fan fiction at this stage. Give documentation or drop the 112 wins from the article. I demand it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.244.141.115 (talk) 06:45, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"I demand it" ? ha ha fucking ha. Seriously, do you expect that attitude will result in people agreeing with you and treating you with respect? On another note, there are major issues with the edit of yours that I am reverting. It add undue weight to that content. I would suggest that you look for a reliable and unbiased source that makes the same claims, and use that to support that type of content, or if you can't find a suitable source, then don't add it. thanks Spacecowboy420 (talk) 08:01, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There are ZERO sources for these mystery fights; yet you keep reverting to that. Tell me, why do you keep allowing undocumented fights on this wiki? This is a joke. Is Shannon really this insecure that he can't handle people thinking he has a losing record? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.68.8.70 (talk) 18:23, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Really? And adding undocumented fight numbers based on the word of Mr Ritch is all it takes to be good for a wiki bio? Should we update Floyd Mayweather's wiki page to say he is 89-0 with a bunch of "undocumented fights"? You are leading the reader to believe unproven claims; which essentially renders his bio useless. A wiki page should only have what is documented, period. Nobody other than Mr Ritch makes these grandious claims and it is pretty clear why he did it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.244.141.115 (talk) 06:26, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your version "fighter claims to have fought over 200 times with dozens of wins before 1998. However, there is no source that can even attempt to verify this claim from the fighter."
The version that I reverted to "Shannon has over 200 professional MMA fights 112 wins, 88 losses and 2 draws, some fights going undocumented and dating back as far as 1991."
The version I reverted to, clearly states that some are undocumented. Your version uses loaded terms such as "claims" and "can even attempt to verify" - terms like that are not neutral, and on wikipedia we strive for neutrality.
You are trying to lead the reader to a certain point of view - just put factual content with neutral language, and let the reader work out their own opinion. Spacecowboy420 (talk) 07:39, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, in addition to you supporting lies about his fight record; he does NOT have black belt in BJJ. I suppose if I delete that you will revert it back as well? your dedication to Mr Ritch's image is quite amazing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.244.141.115 (talk) 03:53, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
