The claim made in our article that silver calcium batteries shouldn't be used except on vehicles and chargers specifically designed for them is from what I can tell misleading [1]. While I haven't be able to find great sources, most sources I've found suggest there's actually nothing unique about silver calcium batteries when it comes to charging them. Rather, like non silver calcium batteries, they should be charged to 14.8V. So it's true that with some vehicles (primarily old, since most new vehicles for I think over a decade now use calcium batteries except for the very new start-stop ones which may use AGM etc) and chargers, they may not be suitable the same way calcium batteries are not suitable. But from what I can tell, any vehicle or charger which is designed for calcium batteries is also capable of using a silver calcium battery. There is no requirement that the vehicle or charger is specifically designed for silver calcium batteries, in fact I'm not sure if there is any real way to design a vehicle or charger for a silver calcium battery. (Although there could be for conditioning I guess.) Possibly silver calcium battery are more susceptible to being insufficiently charged but I'm not sure if even this is true. Possibly silver calcium predated the calcium battery becoming so common, so for a time, the word for silver calcium battery was don't use them unless your car is designed for them, but it's confusing nowadays when as I said, so many cars are designed for and use calcium batteries.
