On racism accusations

[edit]

I have seen many communities on the internet where people accuse the comic of racism. But we can't include the accusations in the article unless one can find a newspaper column/article or another WP:RS where a person makes the claim... WhisperToMe (talk) 20:31, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I had started a noticeboard post about this: Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Single_Asian_Female_and_the_accusations_of_racism_that_are_not_covered_in_reliable_sources WhisperToMe (talk) 06:49, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if Schema magazine is RS but as a note I found: http://schemamag.ca/2006/11/29/single_asian_female_comics_a_c/#.UgpM333LfK7 - http://archive.is/U8LgD WhisperToMe (talk) 15:47, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How is this notable?

[edit]

The author doesn't even have a website to virtually distribute his comic anymore. --24.185.64.42 (talk) 20:21, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BTW the Northwest Asian Weekly also wrote about it, and this article is indexed in ProQuest, so that adds to the notability WhisperToMe (talk) 07:18, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Those are all very poor sources to call this notable. --140.32.16.3 (talk) 01:30, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@140.32.16.3: If you go on the reliable sources noticeboard I'm certain that both the San Francisco Chronicle (the newspaper of record of San Francisco) and AsianWeek (a national Asian-American newspaper) would be declared "Wikipedia reliable." Since EBSCOHostProQuest indexes/indexed the Northwest Asian Weekly that one would be too. Because we have these articles, Single Asian Female meets WP:GNG which means it's eligible for an article. WhisperToMe (talk) 12:20, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Notability is established by the depth of coverage in reliable sources, it has nothing to do with whether sources cited have a Wikipedia article on them. AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:55, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It also has to do with the reputation of the source. What I meant by "Wikipedia reliable" is not "has a Wikipedia article on it", but instead "is determined to meet the criteria of a Wikipedia:Reliable source according to Wikipedia's standards." As for the depth of coverage, two of the articles are entirely about this webcomic, and the third (the SF Chronicle article) gives significant coverage. Norcal Rapist

[edit]

It seems like the "Norcal Rapist" was a real rape case: It was referenced in the final panel of the Norcal Rapist Comic (See here, Archive) - It was on America's Most Wanted

There was a page at http://www.safcomic.com/sexualassault.html but it was never archived. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:06, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't be amention in the article that this webcomic has been very controversial (if not universally criticized) and suffered accusation of racism? Since this would be an important, if not fundamental, context information, put or not in a newspaper. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.226.19.191 (talk) 20:04, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I started a section about that above. Here's the problem: Not one of the sources that criticize the comic are published by newspapers, academic journals, published books, or other sources that Wikipedia considers "reliable" (see: Wikipedia:RS). No RSes known to me mention or describe these criticisms. If a RS publication discusses this, I would appreciate a link to it! WhisperToMe (talk) 01:33, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure that 1. You're doing WP:SYNTHESIS there. 2. You're probably the creator of SAF, aren't you? --140.32.16.3 (talk) 01:31, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @140.32.16.3: where's the SYNTHESIS? (WP:SYNTHESIS says "Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources.")
    • If you are referring to this talk page section: WP:NOR says clearly "(This policy of no original research does not apply to talk pages.)" and the content above about the "Norcal Racist" isn't actually a part of the article. In any case I don't see where I'm making a claim about "Norcal Rapist" that is not explicitly supported by any of the links above.
  • 2. I'm not the creator of SAF.
