Noble Scarlet

[edit]

"Because of Skuld's lack of magic power, Noble Scarlet lacked the unequivocal obedience an angel must have for her goddess. After interfering with Skuld budding relationship with Sentaro, Urd turned her back to egg form with the promise that they'll meet again when Skuld has gained enough power."

I'm am not sure about the manga (having not read it), but it looks to me that this passage is referring to the way the events happened in the recent anime TV series. The problem with this is that the anime never really showed exactly what happened in that particular scene, and the passage steps into some pretty gray ground by implying too much: Skuld simply turns around to find Urd and Belldandy with Noble Scarlet's egg - we never know if it was really Urd who sealed Noble Scarlet.

The article's interpretation of the scene only takes the events at face-value. There is a deeper interpretation that is a bit more hidden.

After Noble Scarlet's first interference with Skuld and Sentaro which causes them to kiss, Skuld says something along the lines of, "I'm not mad at you anymore. But if you do that again, I'll have to transform you back into an egg!" Later, when Skuld turns around and sees only Urd and Belldandy with Noble Scarlet's egg, it may be implied that Urd sealed Noble Scarlet in order to protect Skuld, but this is not the only possibility. Urd says, "An angel must be completely obedient to her goddess," to which Skuld says in disbelief, "Is this because I told her I'd turn her back into an egg!?"

This explanation offers a much deeper angle to the story which the article's explanation does not. The idea is that Nobel Scarlet knew that she would have to be sealed in punishment due to what Skuld said, but she still disobeyed in order to bring Skuld and Sentaro together and bring them happiness, sacrificing her own well-being for her master's.

Of course, this does not discredit the article's explanation, and it is highly likely that what really happened is a combination of the two. The anime pretty much leaves it up to the viewer's imagination.

Firstly, the article should at least be changed so that it is clear that the above passage is simply an interpretation of the events and that it is never fully revealed what really happened. The fact that the anime leaves it up to the viewer's imagination must be made clear instead of the article just ignorantly putting it out there, "This is how it happened," like it is right now. Secondly, I don't really know if it is worth putting the second interpretation into the article, but I thought it was worth bringing up for discussion. Perhaps a separate section can be created for Noble Scarlet regarding these two interpretations of her sealing. I don't have the balls and the judgment to make all those edits, so I leave it to someone with better writing skills than myself. 24.17.73.47 08:30, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Move

[edit]

As the manga figure Skuld, or at least her name, is apparently derived from Norse mythology, I restored this article to be about the mythological topic, as it originally was, and moved the manga content to Skuld (manga). User:Coolcat had cut and pasted this content to other articles, without noting its origin, without proper editing and without making sure interwiki links worked (all interwiki links go to articles on the mythological topic). Let the people who are working on Norse mythology, such as User:Wiglaf and User:Haukurth, decide if this article should be divided, and where, in that case, to put the content. Uppland 06:55, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I do not let people decide matters if I have views on them. I left the matter alone for User:Wiglaf's sake and to evade a conflict of interest. I could have complained about admin abuse etc but I am not a troll.
Also before I touched this article skuld (page for the nythological deity) also contained information regarding the anime/manga character which was unnaceptable. So I broke the article into two/three and created a disambiguation page.
As far as notablility is concerned fictional Skuld the manga/anime char is more notable than the fictional mythological Skuld as more people watch TV then read books these days.
What I was trying to do is make Skuld a disambiguation page so that everyone should be happy, that is the standard way to do it.
The anime/manga character is very loosly based from the norse one. I do not believe the norse mythological char was a genious in mathmatics and mechanics as well as regenerating energy via icecream nor was she ever in Japan (as scandinavians did not know about Japan). You cannot simply call something completely different a "derived work" -- Cat chi? 16:16, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Personality

[edit]

Urd states on the TV serries that Skuld doesnot consider her (Urd) as her sister. Also she shows no sign of shock when Skuld supposively learns about Urds demon half. -- Cat chi? 16:10, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Furthermore on the movie we see no real issue between eachother. And in the OVA no serious problems either. -- Cat chi? 16:10, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

That's fine- I have no qualms about your edit to my personality anaylisis, I was just a bit troubled yesteday regarding your edits, because you made some run-on sentences and took out a little info. But this is competent; I agree with your concensus. :) -MegamanZero|Talk 16:19, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am not happy with my version. I do not mind it being further improved. So long as it doesn't get reverted I am OK :) -- Cat chi? 16:51, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Disambiguation help

[edit]

I am unable to work out how to change the infobox-generic for this page, it is just well beyond my technical capacity! I am terrified of destroying the page (and possibly numerous others) by messing with it. Sadly it automatically links via the "elemental affinity" descriptor to the element disambiguation page, when it should link to either the Japanese Elements page or the Classical Element page. If someone could sort that for me, it would be wonderful. I am unsure where to place my plea, this seemed as good a place as any! APologies if it is the wrong place. I'll drop one on on the Wikiproject's talk page too. LeeG 00:45, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Errata

[edit]

This statement 'and an assortment of gadgets that seem to be interesting applications of Aid, Succor, and Dispel' doesn't make any sense and is completely out of place. Never in the manga has any reference been given to Skuld's gadgets in RPG-esque terms. This phrase (and the sentence before that) was actually lifted from this page: http://surbrook.devermore.net/adaptionsanime/omg/skuld.html, made by a certain Michael Surbrook. Due to the tangential and irrelevant reference, I have edited it out.

I also cleaned up the article a bit, there were a few other inconsistencies and grammatical errors. --Peorthmegami 05:35, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good work. -- Cat chi? 06:14, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Unmerged

[edit]

There has been a discussion on the List of... page that has "ended" with the result that the main characters of this show be unredirected once again. I will be removing the superfluous mergeto flag from the article. Kyaa the Catlord (talk) 10:54, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The article looks pretty well referenced for notability as it is, but I thought some more might be needed and cleaned up my CSE for Skuld-related hits: http://www.google.com/cse?cx=009114923999563836576%3A1eorkzz2gp4&q=skuld+-loki+-ipod+-Valkyrie

Hope it helps. Looks like the first hit has some useful material for the bio section too. --Gwern (contribs) 01:48 26 February 2010 (GMT)
