Book Notice

[edit]

I think that it should go, at least until there is an article on it.

Why? Red links are a reminder of work that remains to be done. Stan 14:12, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About the last paragraph, is there any article talk about the sky islands in those places?

Baja California?

[edit]

And how is it a "sky island"? I got a feeling that the definition is being stretched here. What are the sources for this list of "sky islands"? Kortoso (talk) 21:32, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion on list

[edit]

Most of the listed mountains have nothing on their individual article pages that would merit them being called "sky islands". Most mountains have a variety of life zones; that alone does not make a sky island. Let's dig up some sources to support these. Kortoso (talk) 21:55, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One of the worst inclusions on the list is the Olympic range. Ahtanum (talk) 23:01, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Users will think the article refers to mountains that float above clouds

[edit]

Readers in a hurry will see (the great) File:SkyIslands from SantaCatalinaMtns.JPG and think the article refers to mountains that appear float above clouds. So you might want to warn readers that it doesn't. Jidanni (talk) 11:34, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology

[edit]

This is a Compound (linguistics) and has an etymology. Catchpoke (talk) 15:34, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Olymics

[edit]

A critical part of what defines sky islands is the degree to which they are "radically different" from the surrounding lowlands. I don't understand why the Olympics would be included in the Nearctic list — most of the mountains on this page are thickly forested as opposed to surrounding lowland desert.
