False information

[edit]

Editors contribute false information regarding Soldera being a part of Russian Federation. This must be removed, and reverted back to the truthful information. LanaMirman (talk) 00:51, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Since no one outside the Russian Federation accepts the annexations WP must describe the situation as it legally and politically is, not as some Putin Supporters might see it.--Carolus.Abraxas (talk) 01:05, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It was just a temporary disruption by a new account. Mellk (talk) 01:23, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ongoing Fighting

[edit]

The BBC and The Guardian are currently reporting that most of the town has been taken over by Russian aligned forces, mostly the Wagner Group from what I understand, that means it´s profile should be changed to show that it is occupied by Russians, and it´s sovereignty belongs to the Donetsk seperatists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by StrongALPHA (talkcontribs) 15:08, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

City Captured

[edit]

Wagner forces have captured this city, it is now Russian occupied, at least de facto if not legally recognized — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:1730:F170:B837:C667:C312:C728 (talk) 01:31, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Claims of Russian capture or encirclement of Soledar lack credible third-party confirmation by sources outside of the Russian Military or the Wagner Private Military Company at this time. International reporting is focusing on the claims of capture, not the truthfulness of those claims. Equally "valid" reports are originating from Ukrainian and Ukrainian aligned forces disputing the Russian claim. I would recommend either adding a "Citation Needed" tag to the claim - at the very least - or more appropriately reverting the page to its previous state, and locking the page until such time as multiple international and credible sources can corroborate or repudiate either side's claims of control. Russian names using

[edit]

The only state language in Ukraine is Ukrainian and it's not necessary to use Russian or any other language names for Ukrainian towns or villages. Algonkins (talk) 13:08, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Algonkins: We do not use only official languages, but also languages common in the city. Since this town has large Russian-speaking population, Russian name is appropriate. Please, do not remove it again. Vanjagenije (talk) 17:25, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Destroyed

[edit]

This is not even a city anymore. Like, there is quite literally nothing left. All dust. 51.174.46.115 (talk) 10:54, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A destroyed city is still a city, unless there is nothing on the territory, and it has been re-constituted. Luganchanka (talk) 11:04, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox image

[edit]

The infobox image is of the railway station in Sil, which is technically within the outskirts of the administrative region of Soledar but is often seen as a separate settlement.[1] It would be good to have an image that's actually in Soledar proper at the top of the page. HappyWithWhatYouHaveToBeHappyWith (talk) 22:12, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I found another image, and I put it into the article. I think it might need a bit of cropping to make it less wide, but otherwise it looks good to me. If anyone else has thoughts, let me know. HappyWith (talk) 21:26, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Russian occupation in infobox

[edit]

@El819: You have been reverted at least three times by multiple users for adding variations on (de facto occupied by  Donetsk People's Republic ) to the infobox next to Ukraine, the internationally recognized country which the settlement belongs to. It's common practice to only include the internationally recognized owner of a settlement. (ex: Mariupol, Ayn Issa, Sanaa, all of which are controlled by non-recognized groups. They might use the 'Control' parameter at most.) Please get consensus here on the talk page before adding it again. HappyWith (talk) 18:43, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Artemovsk Scintillation Detector

[edit]

I just visited site of Institute for Nuclear Research of Russian Academy of Science, and learned that ones of the detectors build over 40 years ago, was built in Ukraine, close to Bakhmut.

The Artemovsk Scintillation Detector of the Artemovsk Science Station (city of Soledar, the Donbass region), Institute of Nuclear Research, Russia. I believe it was constructed by Department of High-Energy Leptons and Neutrino Astrophysics in 1969. It is about 105 ton of liquid scintilator (ZhS) detector, located about 100 meters under ground. I believe it is located in the Soledar salt mine (which afaik was still active, and provided over 90% of salt for Ukraine, and had some other things there, including museum, hotel and activities).

Anybody know the state of this installation? I found a paper from 2018, stating general current status and main scientific results of last 40 years, but there were no plans as such to close the facility at the time. 2A02:168:F609:1:F222:16DC:EF18:4775 (talk) 20:09, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Russians took Bakhmut in June"

[edit]

This statement of the article contradicts the Wikipedia page for Battle of Bakhmut. Either June should be replaced with May or the Wikipedia page on the Battle of Bakhmut contains false information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorgedweller (talkcontribs) 07:50, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sectioning

[edit]

@Luganchanka Thank you for updating this article to reflect recent events, but I really disagree with the changes you've made to the structure and sectioning of the article. I don't think it's necessary to have so many tiny subsections, and the titles of them don't really reflect standard guidelines. I'm going to change back some of the most objectionable ones while trying to preserve as much of your edits as possible, since I know it's annoying when someone reverts hours-worth of changes. We can discuss here if you have objections. HappyWith (talk) 16:03, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll watch what you do, thanks for letting me know. Luganchanka (talk) 16:35, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can this really be considered a "destroyed city"?

[edit]

Maybe the satellite photos I'm using are mislabeled (shows 2024) but a large percentage of buildings and infrastructure seems intact or at best lightly damaged. While the city is mostly depopulated right now that is common for most smaller cities during wars. Vamlov (talk) 00:26, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
