A great theorem due to Solovay, but is it "Solovay's theorem"?
[edit]If you Google "Solovay's theorem", with the double quotes, among the hits on the first page, only one refers to this theorem — and it's this WP article. Some of the other hits are referring to a theorem on completions of PA; some to a result from the modal logic of provability; one to splitting a regular cardinal κ into κ-many disjoint stationary sets; one to the existence of an oracle relative to which P=NP.
I don't have a problem with an article about the consistency of ZF+"all sets of reals are measurable", but I'm not sure Solovay's theorem is the correct name for it. --Trovatore (talk) 04:06, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- On the other hand, I think Solovay model is a perfectly standard term for the construction here. I suggest that this article be moved to Solovay model. Then Solovay's theorem can perhaps become a disambig page. --Trovatore (talk) 05:08, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
notation
[edit]I changed a couple of references to "the first uncountable cardinal" from ω1 (omega sub 1) to ℵ1 (aleph sub 1) because I'm used to ω1 denoting that object when considered as an ordinal rather than as a cardinal. But then I saw that earlier versions of the article used the aleph symbol, so maybe the choice of omega was for some mathematical reason, or perhaps because of issues relating to how browsers display that character (it works fine on the Firefox that I'm using). Anyway, feel free to revert if there's some reason to use omega. It just looked weird to me that way, but I'm no expert. 66.127.55.192 (talk) 00:10, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- Many browsers/platforms do not render the Unicode ℵ symbol. As of yet no one has found a good solution for this problem — sometimes we would definitely prefer to use the aleph rather than the omega; the Unicode doesn't render for everyone; the LaTeX has problems with sizing. Pick your downside :-( . --Trovatore (talk) 01:39, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Deconstructive account of "the Measure Problem"
[edit]About Vitali and Hausdorff and the measurable after point-set topology, there's something to be said that this example of an axiom system the Solovay model, is perhaps relevant to "the Measure Problem", but is not in terms of "the main article" being "the main article", with regards to the surrounds of measure theory, the results of Vitali then Hausdorff, about Riemann/Lebesgue/Stieltjes and so on, with regards to Jordan content / Jordan measure, measure theory and the quasi-invariant measure theory, the Dirichlet problem, and an entire own "main article" for "Measure Problem", which today redirects here.
So, I'd wonder a Wiki tag that says "redirected from main article, there should instead be an entry for the main article, and this a link from that". 97.113.23.37 (talk) 23:35, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- It's really hard to figure out what you're talking about. It sounds like you're complaining about a {{main article}} link from some other article, but I don't know which one. Measure problem is a disambiguation page, and it has a link here, but it's not marked "main article". --Trovatore (talk) 04:09, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
