Query

[edit]

From the look of it this article is about the SYR during the life (and just after) of the company. Would info on the line's later life be out of place here?Talltim 19:26, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Locomotives

[edit]

I think "Thwaites Brothers" might refer to Robinson Thwaites. Can anyone confirm this? Biscuittin (talk) 00:15, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That article mentions "Thwaites Bros." being formed 1880 - so I think yes.

Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Goole Railway

[edit]

According to the article " The railway company sold its rights for the lines, those north of Barnsley to the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and those to the south of the town to the South Yorkshire Railway, although they had no line and no authority to build one" - apart from making little sense, it appears to be contradicted by http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=TN1AAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA531#v=onepage&q&f=false (The railways of the United Kingdom: statistically considered, Harry Scrivenor, Smith, Elder, and co., 1849 ) .. even the most idiot parliament is not going to pass an act allowing a company to raise capital for a line of 27 miles, but not grant permission to build it.. or is it? Additional stations

[edit]
At the opening the only intermediate station on the SYD&GR. was Conisbrough although further stations were added from 1 February 1850 to serve the villages of Hexthorpe and Balby and for Warmsworth and Sprotborough

Where are they? The map pointer for Sprotborough (SYR) railway station points to a narrow cutting. Doesn't seem a likely place. Where where the others. Prof.Haddock (talk) 17:47, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removal

[edit]
Traffic on the Elsecar Branch increased from June 1850 due to a new seam being worked at Darley Main Colliery.

Darley Main wasn't on the Elsecar branch.. This is probably a simple 'typo' but I don't know which bit is in error.

Track gauge

[edit]

What was the track gauge? Peter Horn User talk 00:06, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Standard. Why would you think otherwise? --Redrose64 (talk) 08:04, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
