Main/Recurring Cast

[edit]

What are the criteria for grouping characters as main or recurring? Characters like Vonreg, Orka and Flix, and the Aces hardly seem like main cast members, as they appear inconsistently, and many of the Aces have had very little dialogue. In my opinion, the characters that are definitely main cast are Kaz, Neeku, Yeager, Tam, and Torra. Borderline are Captain Doza, Pyre, and Tierny (the latter as of late). No other character has appeared in even half of the episodes (excepting droids), and they often go unseen for several episodes in a row. It seems obvious the others are recurring to me, but I am unable to find a source offhand. Should we just remove the distinction altogether if the grouping is arbitrary? Hat note

[edit]

@2001:48F8:7024:5DD:D497:C6E0:D8A1:9572: Stop removing the hat note. There is no legitimate reason to remove it. The hat note ensures that people get to the article they wish to, and Wikipedia articles are not written for fans but to be as broadly accessible as possible, and that includes people not familiar with the franchise. "Real Star Wars fans would know the difference" is not a valid reason for removal. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 06:26, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy

[edit]

Is it really necessary to notate the controversy. The story never gained much mainstream notice, and there have been few mentions of it outside of websites and blogs dedicated to niche culture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Luckymike967 (talkcontribs) 18:06, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The same concerns (animation style, young target audience) are reflected in the reviews, so if the article was expanded to include reviews from the critics the prerelease comments would be redundant and then maybe you could convince people to delete the section. The reviews seem to be based on the first two episodes which is at least better than internet comments based only a short trailer. -- 109.79.174.44 (talk) 23:21, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I should clarify that the "Controversy" referred to here was the negative early reaction to trailers, which was subsequently moved to Marketing and unrelated to later Controversy sections which may or not still exist, as there was again concerns over notability. Unfortunately the critical response section has still not been expanded to include comments from individual critics. -- 109.76.144.238 (talk) 16:53, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of Star Wars Resistance episodes

[edit]

As the other two shows have a page specifically for listing every episode and giving a summary for each, shouldn't this show have a page like that as well? Or does that come to fruition when there's a substantial amount of episodes? --HotJebus (talk) 00:09, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We generally follow WP:SPINOUT, meaning we don't split off sections until the article is so large that it requires it. In the TV WikiProject, however, it's not uncommon for an episode list to be split out once there's at least one season of episodes and a pickup for a second season, but even that may be too soon for many articles.— TAnthonyTalk 04:41, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Marketing/ Reception

[edit]

How is it that this series has been both negatively received and positively reviewed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:182:D17F:937A:95F0:1A9C:C0BD:7E7E (talk) 04:46, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The wording is easy to misread if you skim read too fast. I had to do a double take on that section too. When the marketing section says "more positively received with subsequent seasons" you must remember Resistance has only had a few episodes, not seasons and the comments about improved reviews are referring to the two other shows, namely The Clone Wars and Rebels.
Hopefully ratings will be added to the article soon to give a better indication of how well the show is doing. I might try to expand the Critical response section soon if no one else bothers. -- 109.76.144.238 (talk) 17:01, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy/Rachel Butera

[edit]

Though I initially defended the inclusion of this notable info, now that nothing has come of it, it is sort of a blip and, I believe, should be removed per WP:UNDUE. I'm interesting in hearing any arguments why it should remain? Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 17:19, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Twitter is a wretched hive of scum and villiany but considering a well respected publication such as Variety saw fit to discuss the matter that makes it notable and I say keep it. It is not as if we're short of space. In general Wikipedia does give undue weight to Twitter storms in a teacup and at the risk of making an "other stuff exists" argument this is insult is better sourced and more notable than various other cases of stupid people deleting their Twitter accounts. I'm sure Disney would love this discussion to just go away but I bet the role will be quietly recast next season. -- 109.77.231.46 (talk) 15:27, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I completely agree that this is notable and adequately sourced information. But in context of the article itself, we're devoting an entire section (admittedly, three sentences) to a minor incident with a minor performer that did not lead to recasting, lawsuits, or ongoing controversy. In retrospect it actually has no connection to the series itself, since Lucasfilm did not make a statement that we know of, and there is no evidence that it impacted production. We don't mention Roman Polanski's sexual abuse charges or the Kevin Spacey allegations in the article of every project in which they are involved, just where it is directly related (and in their BLPs). It belongs in Butera's individual BLP (which does not yet exist, and should not at this point) rather than in the Star Wars Resistance article.— TAnthonyTalk 15:49, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to shorten it and move it to the cast section. Haven't decided yet how best to do that. I want to give it less weight rather than deleting it entirely. -- 109.77.231.46 (talk) 16:09, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Episodes

[edit]

So, how many episodes are planned for this first season???

I think that should be mentioned in either/both the intro paragraph and in the "Production" section.

Just a thought. 2600:8800:784:8F00:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 14:03, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Numbering of episodes

[edit]

The current page lists Season 1 as consisting of 21 episodes, starting the The Recruit as episodes 1 and 2 and The Triple Dark as episode 3, etc.

The official website on the contrary speaks of 20 episodes, counting The Recruit as episode 1, The Triple Dark as episode 2, etc. So do TheTVDB and IMDb.

Maybe change the numbering? --178.200.234.135 (talk) 23:35, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I was bold and with my little Wiki-Foo just did it myself. Sorry! --178.200.234.135 (talk) 00:57, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Series finale

[edit]

Moving this here as suggested by IJBall

I don't know when it was added, but the article is saying the series ended January 26, 2020, with 19 episodes. The source being used in the series overview section for the season to support the series end date is a press release showing the programming highlights for the month of January. The only issue is nothing there states series finale. The programming highlights simply state the episode on January 26 as an ordinary episode premiere. So we shouldn't be putting an end date on the series nor the season, for that matter, until 12:00 AM on January 27, 2021, unless we can find something definitive from a reliable source declaring January 26 was the season and series finale date. People keep changing this on the templates, the majority of the time without summaries to at least try to explain it.

Starforce13 has provided more promising sources here and here. One or both of these could definitely replace the current source, though, unless I'm missing it, I still don't see anything that confirms January 26 as the season and series finale date. The sources just seem to confirm that the second season is the last, but no specifics other than that.

The other caveat is that the second season's episodes are incorrectly counted. See Amazon here, which has "The Escape" as a single episode. In other words, only 18 episodes have aired in the second season. The same goes for the first season. Only 20 episodes have aired. Amazon supports "The Recruit" as being a single episode. The series produced 21 episodes for the first season and 19 episodes for the second season, for a total of 40 production episodes, but four of those episodes were merged for presentation, so two episodes merged for the series premiere and two episodes merged for the reported series finale. So what we actually have are 38 episodes that were broadcast.

Thoughts? Ping Geraldo Perez as well. Amaury17:54, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Amaury, the following sources should confirm the episode on January 26th was the finale:
  • ABC says But as the animated series "Star Wars: Resistance" ends its two-season run with an hour-long finale this Sunday. Since the article was published on January 24, "this Sunday" translates to "January 26."
  • SlashFilm posted a series finale recap on Sunday January 26.
  • SYFY posted a post-series finale interview the next day, January 27.
  • Official Star Wars website subheading says THE ACTORS BEHIND KAZUDA XIONO AND TAM RYVORA DISCUSS THE SHOW’S SECOND SEASON AND THE SERIES FINALE, COMING JANUARY 26.
Thanks. — Starforce13 18:01, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Starforce13: Great! We can use a combination of those to source not only the season finale, but the series finale as well. I did not notice that line in the ABC source provided when I first looked at it. The ABC source is probably the best and most definitive out of the three due to the "this Sunday" part as recaps and interviews don't always necessarily come right after a finale airs or even the day after. Sometimes they're posted a week or even a month after. However, these are all better than the current source with the January programming highlights as that says nothing that it's a series finale. Amaury18:17, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, Amaury. I prefer the ABC source as well to replace the current "programming highlights" source for the finale. As for the episode count, it's just a matter of deciding whether a 2-parter airing the same night should be counted as one or two episodes. I'm fine with either way but I personally prefer the way it's been done on this article. — Starforce13 18:35, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
